B.O.A.T = Break Out Another Thousand.
Not as expensive as the gym, the pub and the psychciatrist if I didn't. Their might be murder in the house if iI didn't get out and I would be the victim.
So it's cheap really!!!
When times are the darkest ... Fishing is the light that brings you back.
Fishing is priceless
11years ago my Father and father in law passed away, the mother and mother in law became ill ... we moved from God's own country " SE Qld" to Victoria to be close to our ailing parents. The continuing illnesses linger and the pressure builds, Dramas with Children(young adults now) Drugs ...problem now solved ....Daughters marriage break up due to Domestice Violence ...Custody battles ... No relaxation ... poor diet ...continual worries .... health deteriorates...
..tests tests and more bloody tests ..Chest pains ...Long hours of work no play.
Enter the Doctor ..... All tests okay ..Diet stuffed need more Omega 3, relaxation and exercise. Make lifestyle change .... Work less play more ... Take up fishing ...eat your catch ... Turn your phone off ... enjoy nature and it's bounty.
Changed jobs now only work 5days a week (50-55hrs not 70-90 as previous)
All overtime money is now relaxation (Life) cash ...which is now being channelled towards fishing.. when the folding money received from o/t = cost of boat i'm there.
As long as you have a roof over your head, and food in your belly your okay.
My health has improved dramatically, and i reckon i'll be fishing for decades to come.
How expensive is fishing ...... How much do you value life .... i'd spend all my cash and live under the stars to dance on this earth for a few extra years.
My 2 year old granddaughter now meets me at the door, with a hug, and asks to watch a fishing DVD I Fish or others. Gee it's great to be alive again.
And Yes I will be returning to God's own country again, in fact i'll be up to enjoy her in the last 2 weeks of July.
SPEND ALL YOUR MONEY FISHING AND LIVE LONGER .... your a long time dead
I hear ya Rowdy...how so many ppls lives are similar is amazing....after I had my quad bypass in 2001....my cardio specialist told me if i went back to doing what I was doing (80 - 90 hours a week) I may as well book my spot in the cemetary. Family had all moved to qld for a better lifestyle and I was still battleing the Sydney rat race. After another mild hearty....I decided that life and family are far more important than the dog eat dog of corporate life.....I moved to qld and close to the water so I could go fishing when I wanted....with the family and/or all the mates that also moved up here (and the many I have met since I have been here). What price fishing?..........priceless!!!!!!!
Greg
Our second mortgage is at BCF and Tackleworld!!!
We have that much fishing gear, I couldn't tell you how much to even insure it all for.
Best way is to not think about it....every purchase is an investment.
I can comment on most of this but having recently spent $4000.00 on 2 shimano Tiagara's with a Gary Howard rod for 1 and a Shimano T curve for the other, add to the constant hole in the water to throw cash into called "A BOAT" and I reckon I can safely say that my freezer is full of Coral Trout, Red Emperor, Red Throat etc that OWES me about $1200 a kilo. I think thats what they mean when they say "Eat like a king" eh?
I have to be honest though and say I dont care how much it costs, WHILE WE HAVE IT, (you know what I mean here ) I will continue to fork out whatever I have to as to be able to enjoy what is left of the "Great Australian Lifestyle" no matter the cost and before the greenies and government take it all away. And thats not to far away either sadly.
I CAME INTO THIS WORLD KICKING, SCREAMING AND COVERED IN SOMEONE ELSES BLOOD. I HAVE NO PROBLEM GOING OUT THE SAME WAY.
NEWBY T.G.
listen to you lot ??
take a hand line to the local warf or jetty and have some fun
a hundred dollar reel and 3 hundred dollar rod ??????????????????
braid ??? rubbers???
get back to what you had ????
you all want to be the next rex hunt
it should be fun not who can spend the most
20 000 for boat
10 000 for gear
kid on jetty hand line prawns catching shit fish but having fun
??????????
One thing I DONT want to be is the next Rex Hunt, I catch much better fish than him!!! I dont see this thread as being a pissing contest mate, just people with a passion expressing their ways of enjoying a pastime. Everyone started at the same place, probably on a jetty with a handline, but everyone eventually wants to venture further.
Nothing wrong with fishing off a jetty with a handline, Im glad you are a grass roots fisherman. Next time I am blasting over the horizon in search of big ugly ooglie looking things I will rest easy in the thought that you are content getting splinters in your arse sitting on a jetty.
You're right, it should be fun. Geez I had fun today at the Barwons.....
Hi all
Why is it when you get so far through a topic things always turn into a $***t fight or someone gets abit narky.
I only asked a simple question and a light-hearted opinion-- didn't want everyone to start slinging up at one another.
We all started in the same place-- when we were kids our fishing pole was a piece of bamboo with a hook and sinker. We have progressed a little over the years and now while I can afford to spend a little more, by no means do I spend excessively, I can now make my time spent fishing just a little better than having to use a bamboo pole.
I didn't ask how much is spent on fishing and aske everyone to put in a detailed account of how much this rod was and how much this reel was'' all i wanted to know was your opinion on how expensive it is getting to do something we all enjoy.
Ronnie
Fishing can be as inexpensive as you like, or as expensive as you can afford. 10 years ago, I'd be on cloud 9 if I can afford a couple of Mepps spinners or a Rapala.
Now, I don't have too much more money really, but I'm hoping that one day I can move to somewhere warm along the coast with saltwater and a few pelagics to pull on. My friend in Hawaii with a 22' boat told me all the spending he puts into his boat...and while I was visiting, he had to fix a snapped Y-fork and that costed him $800 alone. Not to mention the hundreds of dollars he puts in for gas for the truck and the boat. But I don't care...I've experienced the joy of bluewater trolling and if I can afford it one day, I'm going to toss money into that hole in the water
I still enjoy getting out catching a few sunfish and catfish once in a while with a bobber and a worm.
But fly fishing is just so much fun...just don't get into fly fishing and fly tying if your budget is tight
And don't start traveling in worldwide destinations
The way I see it...I don't drink coffee at a cup a day, I don't smoke, I am not into the latest fashion, I don't do yoga/kick boxing/the latest workout craze, I don't play poker, I don't watch a movie a week...and I'm still single...I might as well spend the money on something I love to do...and there's only one thing that comes to my mind...FISHING!!!
BTW, my current "nice" gear for saltwater fishing...which I recently just picked up for my family visit to Hawaii...is an UglyStik Tiger and a Penn Jigmaster 500L I also have a SureCatch ProKat surf rod and put the Jigmaster on it...it's not a great combo...but it caught me yellowfins, skipjacks and mahimahi...it will do for now...
dont you all know boat stands for BRING OUT ANOTHER THOUSAND ........LOL
BUT WHEN YOU FORK OUT 350 BUCKS OR SO FOR A TRIP OUT WIDE AND YOU COME HOME WITH 7 OR SO REDS AT 9 TO 12 KG EACH @ 30 ODD DLS A KG ITS ALL WORTH IT EVEN IF YOU ONLY GET OUT A FEW TIMES A YEAR.....
i must admit it was nice to buy 200 ltrs of fuel $60 of bait and head out for a days fishing, catch a nice feed come home and eat fresh fish, now i spend $15 on fuel shoot out the pin catch a feed of flathead and whiting after pumping a few yabies coming home and eating a fresh feed of fish, my boat has gone from a 19c haines to a 14.2 tinnie a 175merc to a 30 merc lol and now i got another glass boat a bloke is nuts fishing is a disease and it is terminal.
Hilly
If you went on a $/kg basis ...... most would need to own a 12ft tinny to make it viable
Those that fish purely for a feed are often doomed!
Chris
Give a man a fish & he will eat for a day !
Teach him how to fish
& he will sit in a boat - & drink beer all day!
TEAM MOJIKO
yes Chris you are rite mate but fun has a lot to do with it to, what do ya recon .
