Rail mounted spotlights

Hello.

I am currently looking into installing a spotlight onto my centre console for navigating (primarilly avoiding crabpots and boats without lights on) and I have decided that the ideal way to attach it would be if it could be bracketed onto the rail at the front, the same way the adjustable trolling rodholders are attached.

I am pretty sure they would exist but I am not sure where they sell them (brisbane area). Has anyone seen something like this for sale somewhere?

Whitworths have a bit of a range starting at around $40 for rectangular plastic ones. they also have a good range of different brackets you can adapt.
Hella also have a range of marine lights that Repco etc could order in for you.

I've seen those Hella Lights that are on most trade vehicles that are bracket mounted and can swivel etc. I'm going to get one of those myself and fit for the same thing. Darren

Their has been some discussion, on the Freshwater site.

Most seem to think that mounting under the bow is the better solution.

Reflection of front of boat or other object on boat can be problem. Depends on type of boat, Height of mounting and reflection.

a mate of mine did some work on a boat not so long back, the client wanted them recessed/ frenched into the front of the hull. looked trick when it was done and worked a treat

Yeah, I dont really want them permanently in the hull. Also, where i would put it on the boat, the rail has a spray curtain running around the rail, I would like to have it bracketed to the rail then rotate it so its on the other side of the curtain, that way I dont think it would interfere with anything on the inside of the boat.

The swivel lights would be good if I could find the right kind of bracket, or get one made.

If your boat as a bowsprit, what about hanging it underneath?

f you can get them mounted above you and very slightly behind you on the centre console I think you will be happier, The glare from anything up the front can be blinding. I notice that quite few of the yankee boats have them recessed as suggested prior so obviously that works.

I've used two of those clamps that hold the handle bars on BMX bikes.
They're alloy and if you use stainless bolts, last forever.
A flat alloy plate on top to mount the light of choice on and Bob's your uncle
