I have used Whiplash previously in 50 pound on my calcutta 400, and 80 pound on my TLD15, and have been happy with it's performance, especially knot strength.
Has anybody used the heavy stuff - ie 80 pound - on a spinning reel previously?
I am considering using it again for a Saragosa 14/18000 but would be interested to hear from anybody who has used it on a spinning reel to comment on how it performs, the key thing regarding throwing "air knots".
A bit of everything, mainly bottom bashing, to a lesser extent jigging but also throwing poppers at GT's as situations arise.
It's really going to be an allround heavy spin outfit, so my main concern is that it needs to be able to cast without throwing air knots.
I will definitely check out tufline as I have read good reports in previous threads, but I still also have faith in whiplash, it it actually casts well.....
I've used whiplash 50lb on my stradic 8000; although, I used it only for knife jigging, no casting. I'd be confident to say it'd be a good braid for casting. It has a brilliant diametre to strength ratio. I still get the occassional wind knot using a stella 10000 & 20000, spooled with rovex & daiwa sensor pe but I've almost completely eradicated them by inspecting line lay every now & then. You can also limit windknots by using quality terminals (ball bearing swivels).

I have found that I throw the odd one using 20 pound superbraid on a stradic 4000, and less frequently using 30 pound on a spheros 8000. Seems to be mainly after retrieving something with little resistance, small hardbody's retrieved with the current etc.
What can you check as far as line lay goes? Would assume the Stellas would be laying it nice and evenly?
Yeah, I've noticed it only happens when you're retreiving slack line. I usually check the line lay by checking the spool for any loops of line... or loose line. Then I'll simply flick the lure out lightly & wind the line in tight. If you don't pick up the minor problems... they'll turn into tight wind knots. The stellas are good for line lay... you can also adjust how they lay line... but if you're casting big poppers all day long... it's still important to keep on top of things.
