Well done Neil. I can see I am going to have to thumb a ride with you one of these days and get you to teach me the art of fishing properly. You always put up a good report with the results. Congratulations.

I hit the Bay with Chris (bayfisher) today for a trip into the central Bay in search of some of the trophy Snapper that have been turning up. We had a late start due to Chris having an alarm malfunction but we made up time belting across a glassed out Bay . Plenty of fog around and it was a bit of a worry around the shipping channel
We hit a bit of ground with some good shows and pulled a couple of legal Squire and Cod on plastics. We moved on in search of bigger game and scored a few nice fish including a 60cm+ Snapper I picked up on plastic. Another move and more fish in the boat. At this spot Chris gets nailed and fights a big fish for quite a while before it wears through the leader Another nice Cod and its time to start moving south again.
We anchor up on the change of the tide and set up a cube trail of Mac Tuna pieces. A few small Snapper hit the esky before my 6kg outfit screams off and after a short but sharp tussle a nice 70cm Snapper hits the deck . Just after this, Chris's favourite Snapper stick folds over and with a mighty crack snaps the top couple of inches off the tip and snaps the 20lb braid. It looks like the line fouled the second runner and actually bent the guide well out of shape
By this time we decided that we had enough fish and it didn't look like the trophy fish were coming out to play so we skimmed across a glassed out Bay and headed home.
The weather was great and the fishing was some of the best I have had in the Bay for quite some time
Chris will post a couple of shots
Cheers

Catch of the day
Looks like a great day guys! You sure seem to have some good spots out there in the bay. Well away from the popular areas im sure. You always get some dam good size cod, and nice snaps to
Well done guys great fish!!!
That bay definately is glassed out!
Most of these fish came from very well known spots . The trick is using the right technique at the right time. We used everything from plastics to ice jigs along with livies and Tuna fleshbaits. the standout lure for consistently pulling fish (mostly small ) was a little icejig that Chris was trying out. They have a lot of potential if we can find them in larger sizes

Excellent catch there Neil and Chris.
The old bay is sure giving us a good start to the winter snapper season.
There's a 10 kilo out there with someones name on it.
Cheers Brent
Forgive my ignorance, Ice jig, are they the jigs with one hook on the nose that appears to be facing the wrong way?
Cheers
Nice bag of fish ............ Cod fillets too great going guys.
Be good to know what the icejig is too ..... Not that i have done any good on anything apart from baits and livies

There is a fine line between fishing and just standing on the shore like an idiot
I wonder how much deeper the ocean would be without sponges
Up here we Use Hussar as baits for real RED FISHS (SHSIIFDER)
They are the ones, they have one hook in the nose and tail end and a treble underneath. Unfortunately they usually are quiet small but I have managed to pick up a few slightly larger ones from ebay overseas and beefed the treble up underneath (where most fish seem to get hooked). The good thing about them is the get down really quickly and you can spend more time working the target zone (especially in deeper water) and snapper seem to love them.
Neil & Chris your making me jelous, good stuff
Cheers MM
