A few of us have been discussing which fish pound for pound fights harder the threadie or the jew. Thought we might have a poll going. Both species must make themselves available to all Ausfishers for capture inorder to test their fighting capabilities.
Ive caught a 80cm Threadfin on 6lb p.e and 8lb leader in decant current.. watched my mate catch a 75cm jewfish on 4lb fireline and 8lb leader in less current and it went alot harder.. however ive caught other threadys around the 80cm mark on 20lb heavy baitcaster drag and nearly had the rod ripped from my hands, great fight. I guess it all depends on the depth/current/structure you catch them from. But i still think a 130cm jew would have more power than a 130 thready but less speed.
TF are more of a spectacle with super fast runs, jumps and direction changes but Jew will run deep and hard then shake their head like crazy and make you hope you tied a good bimini. I'd say as far as being a sport fish, TF win but Jew have much more prestige and you know you're doing something very right if you catch them regularly whereas TF are pretty simple to connect to. That said I haven't cracked the meter for jew so once I get one up over that size I may change my opinion.
