    Re: Fuel in Queensland

I reckon you blokes are lucky,us NSW's have been putting up with this sort of LaboUr rubbish for years and if you're considering turning out the lights in qld and moving south, the lights down here went out years ago plus we also have the record of being the only state/territory in OZ to be in recession because our government has to be good at something!!!!!!!!!!!

Jabba, you really do look at things fed to you with filtered glasses don't you. My friend the fact that this moronic fed gov't just spent 300billion just to delay a (technical) ressession and people like you are prepared to buy that crap is the reason this gullible state has anna as premier. Lowest debt? Who gives a rats ass about our debt in comparrison to other countries. What matters is that labour were handed a country in brilliant shape by Howard. It was them that put us In the best position in the world to weather this storm NOT the stimulus that your grandchildren will be paying back. Feel free to do some non tabloid reading jabba.

Well you have a few things wrong there Lovey.. Firstly the Fed Gov't did not spend 300billion, it is around 42billion IRC for this fiscal year alone... 300billion is the amount off tax revenue the Fed Gov't has lost (this fiscal) due to the GFC, and everyone spending less....

No filtered looking glass for me champ. I have been a Liberal voter since Dr John Hewson ran for priminister.. But even tho I vote Liberal, I don't and I won't use that filtered glasses that most off you on this forum wear every day...

Yes Labour was handed the country in good shape... Good shape so long as the trillion dollar revenue kept coming in... But it didn't, it retracted back....

How much debt did Australia have when Howard left the office... $0

No, Australia had 600 billion dollars worth off foreign... $30'000 for every person in Aust...

So how are K.Rudd an Swan suppose to keep Zero deficit when Interest on 600 billion needs to be payed, 300billion in revenue has disappeared, and a stimulus package has to be put out to cushion the amount off job losses....

Oh,, What do you think is better to 42 billions on.....
    A stimulus
    or
    handing out dole cheques....

    Re: Fuel in Queensland

The stimulus? In retrospect I'm thinking probably not a bad idea. Parts of it were terrible, like spending on schools - it should all have been spent on income production.

Borrowing? Obviously necessary to an extent, but $300 Billion? Breathtaking. I'm amazed that we have such a huge Public Service, and a Committee for everything. We don't need it all, there are billions being wasted there, State and Federal. Traditional BIG Labor Government is blowing the Budget, like it always does.

The ETS is a crock. Carbon is not an issue, but it is politically correct. So we will tax carbon regardless of what other Countries do, thus sending many jobs offshore and reducing our living standards. Since when did we have to be the Leaders in this? KRUDD has this ludicrous notion that by being a Leader in Carbon reduction we (and he) will achieve icon status internationally. The reality is that every other Country is sitting, watching, and waiting for us to fall flat on our faces.

Recession? Of course we are having one. The Agricultural sector in Oz has been badly depressed because of the drought, but now it is climbing out. It is performing well, and it has delivered a big positive punch. Every other sector is in the poo. Any Politician who claims Labor has kept us from a recession is either lying or stupid.

How long will it last? There are still vast amounts of bad debts in the US that have yet to hit the balance sheets. The Fed is printing money so it can hand out more. NOT GOOD! Still, I think the recovery will be fast enough. China is coming out, it will demand our resources, so our Mining Sector will recover and the boom will come again - maybe not as large, but it will be there. Trouble is China has billions and billions of US currency under the bed. Soon that will be worth less and less. So...

Within a few years, we won't be talking in $US, we will be talking in Yuan, or some other new Global Currency.

And on to the State of Queensland. Anna's arrogance is unbelievable. I have made the point before that she knew income would be knocked down, that selling assets was going to happen, that 100,000 jobs were a furfy. The LNP stated that income would be downgraded, and that money would have to be found. Anna said don't vote LNP they will do terrible things, everything will be fine. Many people here spruiked that Borg was a liar. Pity. Had we voted him in, the difference would be that we would at least have known what we were getting.

And now she's talking about selling our Council water resources back to us??? And at what markup from the theft prices we were given for them? Is no one else just unspeakably furious about this?

Trouble is where do you move to? We are still the best Country in the World, but we run like a mad woman's sh!t (Peter Moon - gotta love him!!!) What the hell can be done about it???? I am lost for an answer.

Forget about all the political crap and just enjoy life in whatever form it is thrown at you. That's my answer
Most of the happiest people on the planet are certainly not the richest!

Again the humble cow cocky has pulled Australia out of the poo.
If it was not for them we would be in a technical recession.

It's about time Australia realised this and supported our farmers.

[quote=Jabba_;1026687]The hard way.. Mmm,, that's comical...

    Jabba says:

"Australia still has a positive economical growth, all be-it it is only .4%... But every other 1st world, modern economy has retracted into the negative figures..."

jabba: Learning the hard way - show me where a ALP government has not left the next government debt to pay off Jabba.

Not in recession - Bhawwwawwhahahahahahah! Yea - that's why people are still losing their jobs! But don't worry if you have lost your jobs - Anna is making 100,000 extra jobs as per her election promise, plus all of KRudss jobs - no problem /sarcasim off.

Spending money on consumption stimulus does not generate real wealth producing jobs (except for KRudd's true country - China). Any ninkinpoop knows that. Talk about believing spin! How come when Springborg used actual figures during the election to talk up the economy (saying we were not in recession) - he was lampooned by the ALP for saying so - yet now with a little "blip" on the charts suddenly we're not? Me thinks the ALP are more interested in spin than substance (unless of course it suits them otherwise - like the latest figures)

Oh - and I suggest you go study the facts about no developed country being in surplus. I think you will find some of the Scandinavian countries are not yet running deficits. Or you can just believe KRudd's lies. Your blind belief in what you hear on the box from the ALP is comical.

    Re: Fuel in Queensland

    Interesting how terminology changes.

The so called Qld fuel subsidy was actually originally simply that the Qld State government did not charge State taxes on fuel in Qld. The Feds always have, then each state added their take, but Qld did not need to (thanks Joh!).

As other have mentioned Qld also had lower rego and license costs, lower tax on alcohol and smokes etc etc. The "low tax state" was the moniker they used and it attracted migrants for the cold south like bears to honey!. For those that remember there was also no death duties either. By the way Tax make up more than half the cost of a litre of fuel at the pump!.

When GST was introduced, this required the removal of all state taxes. Because Qld did not have a state tax on fuel, and the Feds were going to charge every state the same under GST, no fuel tax suddenly became a fuel subsidy!.

So in reality Bligh is adding a fuel tax, not removing a subsidy. Adding a fuel tax that for some 30 years or so consecutive Qld governments have managed to not need to charge!!

By the way in the decade and more of the Beattie/Bligh government, in the greatest economic boom period ever seen, all those Qld tax advantages have been progressively removed, ever last one of them. So where has the money gone??? I think that puts it in much better context IMHO!

    Re: Fuel in Queensland

Yes it's gone , but lets not call it a subsidy. Originally set up as a return to Qld motorists from a tax that other states wanted , which for legal reasons required the Fed Gov to impose. So not an end to a subsidy as Anna is trying ( with aid of mainstream media ) to sell but a NEW TAX. Cheers Kevin
