    Fuel in Queensland

The State Government is threatening to scrap Queensland’s 8.35 cents a litre fuel subsidy in the June Budget – despite specific assurances to the RACQ and the broader community ahead of the March election that the subsidy would be retained With GST, it will add 9 cents a litre to petrol and diesel and will hit families in the outer suburbs and regional areas hardest, as people in these areas have less access to public transport and, often, longer distances to travel.

While there have been criticisms that the full fuel subsidy is not always passed on to motorists, the bottom line in abandoning it would be Queenslanders paying an extra 8.35 cents a litre in fuel excise, plus an extra 0.835 cents a litre.

Fight the fuel tax and join RACQ's fuel e-petition now at http://www.racq.com.au/promotions/fu...bsidy_petition
to send a clear message to Premier Anna Bligh that Queenslanders will not accept withdrawal of the fuel subsidy.
    Regards
    David

yep, it's a total load of krap that's simply lining the pockets of the fuel companies, get rid of it i reckon. same goes for the diesel subsidy for biodiesel blend, i can buy diesel at the bp on the highway for 109.9cpl or i can buy b20 biodiesel blend that's supposed to have a 6c or 8c (can't remember exactly what it is) subsidy, for exactly the same price, where is the money going, certainly not in my pocket.

The fuel subsidy should have been abolished years ago. It's not a good practice to subsidise an activity that directly leads to pollution. I'll pay more for my fuel in the name of sustainability just don't take away our fishing areas.

It's official - Captain Bligh announced this morning that the subsidy will be abolished from1 July 2009 saving the State Government $300million......

RACQ estimates that it will add $172 to the average annual fuel bill as well as making Qld the most expensive state in which to run a motor vehicle.....

    Re: Fuel in Queensland

I will paraphrase an old bumper sticker

"Don't blame me I voted LNP"

I am not debating the validity of the decision to sell the farm, but I will debate the need to put this sort of info before the people to enable them to make a decision on whom to vote for based on facts not LIES!

I had to sit through another bout of lies by Andrew Fraser on the ABC this afternoon. He has the gall to sit there and state that the removal of the fuel subsidy and the sale of government assets were on the table before the last election, Yeah right they were, just like the episode of Yes Minister where the public service put the balanced view in the bottom of the last box 'accidently' hidden in a folder on something else. These decisions were made before the last election and that biatch and Fraser knew about them. They were so enamoured by their own self righteousness that they decided to call an election on a pack of lies and obfuscations because they knew if the went to the polls with the truth they would never win a seat let alone the election!!!! (Krudd is trying to do the same with the threat of a double dissolution on carbon trading.)

Sure, pay another 8 cents for your fuel, don’t forget the tax that they are also putting on fuel and consider your fill up on the 1st of July where you could be paying anything up to 29 cents a litre more for your fuel. (Source is fuel watch from today’s ABC drive program) Then consider what the effect of this, anything between 8.8c and 29c, is going to do to every single thing you buy from any store! Fuel is a large part of the cost of transport and transport is a large part of the cost of your groceries, your bait and tackle and anything else you buy. Can you still afford to go fishing when your weekly shop is another $5 or $10 or more and everything else you buy has increased by?

Let’s add the increase in your registration to your car and trailer, not to mention the boat. According to Fraser, again on the ABC, this time last week, he announced the increase before the budget at 6%. According to the RACQ the eventual increase is anything up to 21% of the actual cost of the registration of the car. Fraser obfuscates this by saying the 6% is the increase in the total bill including the third party insurance, but doesn’t include the increase that was incurred in third party over the year. He also conveniently failed to mention the CPI increase that has been passed on to you the driver which means that your rego in July can be up by over $200. And don’t ask me where the massive increase in boat registration revenue has gone!

Yes it is easy to gloss over the loss of 8c a litre when you say it quickly. From my reckoning the teacher’s demands for a pay rise are well under what is needed just to tread water.

This is great. No doubt the $300M government savings will be passed back to the average worker like me in the form of tax cuts.

    Re: Fuel in Queensland

i wouldn't hold your breath alchemy, but at least it's not $300m lining the pockets of fuel retailers not passing it on. it'd be nice if this meant that rego wasn't going to increase though.

    Re: Fuel in Queensland

So all the assets are getting sold off . What happens then. Our governments and politicians are useless ( that's both sides).

Seriousy this mob is selling off the last cash cows but still need to spend. Whee is the money coming from in 5 years time.

Read my lips - more tax more tax and more tax and higher utility prices..

We could us ethe US model and just print more money ............. inflation????

I was going to retire in QLD but am now looking somewhere else -------any ideas
