    Suzuki DF300 NMEA Engine Data

We have a DF300 suzuki on the back of our 8m Fisher, and was wanting to get the NMEA engine data displayed on our Raymarine E120.

Does anyone know if you can run or set up a NMEA 2000 engine data whilst keeping the standard serial guages, ( i have atached a image of the serial guages that we currently have)

Or do we need to install the SMIS NMEA2000 digital guages first?

Does anyone know anyone that has succeded in getting NMEA 200 engine data out of the DF300. Instructions-information from Suzuki is useless.

    Cheers

    Horto22,

dont know directly about the 300 but, the 140 connection plugs into the service port on the engine, so yes your gauges will work in parrallel to your NMEA data display.

If it is not done this way and the gauges are disconnected at the dash you can void your warranty.. worth remembering.

This thread may give you some more info, http://www.ausfish.com.au/vforum/arc.../t-109712.html.

I dont know if there is an interface cable that will allow you to connect it to your raymarine, you would need to contact raymarine, or better still trymax marine in capalaba (electronics specialists).

    Thanks Honda

I have the raymarine connection sorted, its just the connection point for the Suzuki that unclear. It may be that I need to unplug the existing gauges wirring loam from the "Network 1" port on the Active hub and connect up the Engine adaptor to this port, and then replace existing guages with the SMIS NMEA dgital guages which adds another $500 to the cost.

Go the sims on the df300 you get heaps of information from the motor
As for warranty issues the sims gauges do the same things as the standard gauges including all alarms I cant see how this would effect the warranty
Ring haines and ask to speak to the suzuki tech they know where to connect it or ring John Eadie He will know as well.

Ps, Agree with Far side, Jon Eadie would know as well.

    Far side,

with the 140, the analogue gauges on the dash, have the same connector, I recieved advice from an american supplier, to disconnect at the back of the dash and connect it to the nmea network at that point.

Problem is that your analogue gauge alarms no longer work. Direct advice from Zukes main technical engineer in brisbane was that this would void your warranty. So the proper way with the 140 is to connect it to the service port above the fuse box, then both run in parrallel.

    interesting stuff...horto!

What did you do to connect it to your raymarine as I amthinking of doing it with my C70and DF70 (analog gauges)

    can I do that??

    Thanks guys

Where/how do I contact Jon Eddie?

    2rods

To connect raymarine into NMEA network you need to make a cable up that has the Lowrance NMEA connector on one end and the raymarine Seatalk connector at the other end. I did this by cutting each standard cable (1 seatalk cable & 1 lowrance cable) in half and splicing them together. There are 5 coloured wires in each cable and you simple match & join them up ie red to red, black to blach etc.

Mind you I dont have mine up and running yet but this has been written up on a few forums.

Honda I replaced the analogue gauges on the 140 with the sims and I still get all the alarms even the old oil change
On the 250 I did the same thing and still get all of the data and alarms out of the motor
On the 300 there is an even better reporting system and you actually get a lot more information.
I have also heard that SUZ sell the sims gauges re badged from lowrance

I have taken the chance with the non standard gauges and have not needed a warranty.

I finally got it all working, now have Lowrance LMF400 gauges & NMEA 2000engine data up on the E120 raymarine screen. Couldnt get it to work in parrallel with the standard serial gauges.

Re: Suzuki DF300 NMEA Engine Data

I have a DF 300 and a NMEA 2000 network on the boat. Suzuki have advised me that I must use their serial gauges if I am to avoid warranty issues with the DF300. Unfortunately, while either the serial gauges, or the NMEA 2000 gauges can be connected into the engine wiring harness, both cannot connect at the same time as they share the same harness plug. As the Suzuki serial gauges are not compatible with NMEA 2000, it also means by using the compulsory DF 300 serial gauges, that the NMEA 2000 network cannot access the engine data. The reverse also applies - the Suzuki serial gauges cannot read the GPS data from the NMEA network. So, if you are looking for accurate integrated range and economy data (litre/km) and such data for your trips and each tank with Suzuki motors, and protecting your warranty, your dreamin' as they say. Notwithstanding the warranty issue, the DF 300 works fine on NMEA 2000 - but the Suzuki message is at your risk.

I have written to Suzuki management and asked them why, but we'll see given that no-one else has had any success. In the meantime, my advice to any potential Suzuki buyers looking for the advantages of the NMEA 2000 data network, you won't get warranty support for your motor if you disconnect the recommended gauges. In this day and age with the high performance specs of the main motor brands, maybe another brand motor that does support NMEA 2000 or uses integrated GPS data in another data network will need to be considered if you really want that sort of running data, and keep your engine warranty intact. At least any readers of this post are now more informed than I was when I made my purchasing decision.
