    Quiet Morning at Raby Bay

Fished from the bank near the canal entrance at Raby Bay from about 6am this morning. I haven't fished this spot on an outgoing tide before so thought it was worth a shot.

Results were not real flash with 7-8 undersize bream (best around 21cm) a small tarwhine and a baby snapper on bait and a 34cm flathead on a Gulp soft plastic.

I have seen reports of tailor in the area so I tried a popper early on for no result and also tried with pillies on gang hooks but the pickers destroyed the baits.

Anyway, interesting to have a look at low tide and see the structure that is covered at later stages of the tide. Gave me some ideas to fish the incoming tide in a few weeks.

    Cheers

    Hi Chris

I dont know how that area works but 2 weeks ago i caught 1/4 bucket of hardyheads in one cast at the entrance so there should be something good around chasing all that bait

i caught 13 big squid there 4 days ago, so many squid out there at the moment, there is decent sized fish but you have to get past the little tuckers first

G'day chris, been fishing that area quite a bit lately, strictly lures, results have been mixed, with quality bream and and flathead. My mates and i have also been throwing the poppers around quite a bit of late too, no huge tailor a few in the 40cm range...quite a few of the under size versions. best of luck. just thought id let ya know there are fish around. cheers trav

Mate haven't fished there in 10 years but i used to spin slugs for tailor at the entrance closest to ormiston.Would look for low water that coincided with either first light or dusk. Would always score some nice tailor

Thanks. Maybe I need to switch to some tougher baits which might outlast the pickers. I have caught a few good fish in this spot before so I will definitely try it again soon.

    Regards

Re: Quiet Morning at Raby Bay

Try fishing the ormiston side entrance using a float with 2 feet of line under it and a pilchard on three gang, thatl get the tailor and keep you off the bottom

first and last hour both tides sun up and sun down
