    hungry macks!

    hi all,

i give scott a call yesterday (friday) & lined up a trip for this morning (saturday), we got down to national park boat ramp & no one there , i think the 20-25kts forecast put everyone off.
but after checking a few weather sites & paying attention to the previous days i thought everything would be good & it was with the wind coming off the land. so out to the 1st tripod we head, got out there just before daybreak & down went the slugs...
could have been a little to dark still for the first few drops as we got no hit's, but as soon as it was light enough i am on than bite off, my son luke was also bitten off. next drop for me & scott & just about every drop after that there was a doggie on the other end

21 doggies all ranging from 52-63cm's, great fun ripping them slug's up as fast as you can than having your rod buckle over & line screaming from the reel. using 15lb braid 60lb leader with my diawa 3000td, great fun
this is what a 40gm gillie look's like after only 2hrs.

    Excellent fish caught there

great for the table and god to see.

If the wind off the land persists, I want to float a pilly out on a ballon

    Thanks

    kev,

mate if you are talking land based i would use half pillie (head half) on a single hook with leader, throw out let it hit the bottom & slow wind back in. also get some slugs, have heard ppl catching them on the slugs off the end of the breakwall the other weekend but rip them in as fast as you can.

    Ron,
nice report, I haven't tried metal slugs yet but got a couple yesterday for my next trip out. Doggies seem to be back.
    Well done on the catch.

    Good effort Ron,

I am hoping to get out and chase some macs too, but my tinny is small and it would have to be a real calm day...

    Here's hoping.

Yes it is great with kids - I have a lot of them having had a lot of wives - and watching them catch fish - hunt and gather - crabs, pippies, lumps of sand is a wonderful thing - I know with my bigger ones that they are so grateful that we fished as a family and still do - it is a great thing to do and congrats to your 6 year old - he needs to catch a fish that weighs the same as him - every year!!

    jt,
it's shaping up to be 1 very good mack season!
every chance i get to go after them it's on, even after work if conditions allow.

the 40gm gillie that i have been using, after 11 doggies it's busted!! the back wire that holds the splitring on has broke in half, the splitring is twisted. they gave it 1 hell of a flogging!
