Nearly 30 years ago we had the same scenario with a unbreakable fibreglass rod at the old 'Bills Bait Bar' at Maroochydore, the proprietor had us 'really' loading the rod and it went 'CRACK'. I will always remember his words,"they aren't meant to do that", as my mate and I walked away trying not to laugh at our fist intro to an 'UglyStick'

PS: Never seen one broken since

"elderly gentleman" !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! late 40's.................I bet if you told your father that he would kick your a%#se.

GPB...was it the old 'touch the butt with the tip routine'......there were only ever two models in the whole range that could do that.......and most shops didnt have them in stock cos they were very light spin sticks and 7', which were not popular at the time. (most ridiculous advertising campaign ever thought out by a tackle company).

If the 'salesman' had half a brain, he would have been holding the tip while YOU loaded the rod, or even better, put a reel on it and run line through it so that the rod loaded the way it was designed to load, with the weight distributed by those little ring thingies(guides) on it that have so much money invested in their technology to help the rod work the way it is supposed to. Unless of course he was trying to make a silk purse out of a sows ear.

    Elderly gentleman indeed..................................grrrrrrrrr rrrrrr

I have never heard of an unbreakable graphite rod. Next time I'm in Townsville I'll drop in and ask what it was, might be interesting to see which brand and/or rep has been dealing out some spin.

totally agree, was in another BCF store on the W/E, a couple of pimply faced kids came up and started chatting about what we were looking at, they were great to talk to, quite some knowledge, loading up all the different rods, going through all the reels etc, they were never smart-arse or over confident, were attentive, helpful, polite and respectful....

but the pimple faced kid at another store (Can't remeber, "A" somthing?), that was a different story! Depends on the store I reckon..

i think you'll find if you go to most bcf stores there will be "young" men working there and if you actually took the time to listen to them instead of being just a little stubborn thinking you know more you will realise that some of these guys no the same if not more than most people there senior

no need to judge just because we are a little younger

    Who was talking about BCF??

I was still referring to the buisness that thump-a originally referred to and yes i have given these young guys the time of day... too much time to be honest. i'm sick of being left at the counter with the answer 'i don't know, i'll have to go and find out, you might be able to find something here in the brochure or just wait for (other salesman) to finish and he might be able to tell you.' Then you end up with 2 young teenagers looking at you silly scratching their heads saying, ahh sorry buddy.' Or the other common scenary is....

All good retail outlets know good customer service means happy customers, which means more sales...

Not taking it out on the buisnesses personally, but i would think they might hold a tighter interview process if they don't want to loose their customers.

If you are over 40, your life is half over. You are old, and putting grumpy posts up only serves to reinforce peoples opinions.

Go and have a nice cup of tea and a lie down, before the blood pressure gets too high.... or the old ticker starts acting up.
