I've seen wooden handline spools and alvey spools for sale at the Boaties market, Victoria Point. They look really nice, very similar to your pics Jack. I don't think they build the metal parts just the spool and handles.

That totally wooden Alvey is a work of art Mike! some people have too much time on their hands.
