PE Braids. Whats best for spinning

    Hi all,
I am looking to spool up an new reel for spinning with a PE Braid but have no idea what to buy. I have used most mid priced brands in the past like Fins, Suffix, Sunline, Bionic, Fireline etc etc but dont want and cant afford to try a lot of PE brands. Looking for two braking strains 20lb and 30 - 40lb. 20lb for Tailor / Salmon and 30 - 40lb ( If you can suggest a better braking strain i am all ears, all a bit new for me ) for next years Longtail run and anything else i may be lucky to bag. Idealy i am wanting ultra fine diametre for breaking strain but i guess that is normal for PE's. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
    Cheers

    Hi Scott,

Mate if you want en excellent braid that wont cost you an arm and a leg get yourself some 30lb Tuffline.
I rate it highly....Its trouble free, casts like a dream and tough.
I use it for all my longtail spinning and also use the 80lb and 100lb Tuffline for GT popping.

hi deepfried pete got there first i personally say tuff line aswell i like some of the very expensive braids great for open water or casting the beach but im fishing landbased rocks and to often have lost a good fish to line being slightly abrased on the rocks . Tuffline seems to be the one braid that can handle rocks the best and cast damn well best thing its not hugly expensive

I have been using Sunline Super Pe for a few years
Great line and a 300m spool works out cheaper than Stren/Fireline

Cheers Pete. I have another reel with Suffix Matrix Pro on it and like it. How comparable is the Tuff Line to that. I dont now if the extra dollars are worth it or not but thought i might see what is out there in the PE braids. I will have a look at Tuff Line, if your using it it says a lot.
    Cheers

Scott you will find the PE braids alot more expensive.
I know alot of guys who have had trouble with some of them.....Nitlon and Dawia Sensor being some of them.....Wind knots and unexplained breakages.
    Thats just my experience anyway.

    Cheers guys.
No good using an expensive line only to loose fish to the rocks and cut wind knots out. The missus would like the cheaper option as well.

I usually use YGK 'Ultras' in the 80-130lb range but gave some 100lb Tuffline line a go on a recent trip, it was a joy to use and I felt really confident with it as far as strength and knots are concerned .

Re: PE Braids. Whats best for spinning

other lines ive use are the saltiga sensor surf to be honest for the beach great its thin trying a simple uni knot in a breeze with the stuff can be be a pain it only has 10 15 20 and 30 pounds i use 15 on a 3000 certate odd reel for the beach but the rod im using for this reel very unusal a megabass 11 foot light surf rod rated to 20lbs and the reel seat only fits a tiny reel
the saltiga sensoir surf retails for about $100 for 300m so still pricy but problem is finding it i have to get the tackle store to oder it in for me seen it at anaconda everton in brisbane though odd place for it though .
i love the saltiga hyper pe 8 as well damn i could have fitted myself out with a patriot design popper rod by now if i didnt keep buying the stuff havnt tried varivas gt but felt it and look at it in the flesh seems very stiff and its 70lb +
i do like suline castaway not the super pe its has good abrasion to be honest not bad and cast slightly better than tuffline but not as tuf .
really wanted to try out ygk gallis ultra x8 castamn ordered some from shimreels got messed around had to paypal dispute as the line never came got the cash back though.

to be honest best first test is to find a store that stocks ithe braid you are interested in and just have a look and feel of it i have never had a windknot on both the diawa or the tuffline or castaway but learnt the hard way with bionic braid pink years ago .

if its for the beach like you avatar pic try find some saltiga surf if you can more rocky tuffline

    good luck mate

    Hey sulla,
Will be mostly from the rocks. That one in my avatar was on a boat. Cleaning table at wooli is just beside me in the pic but i edited it out. I will have a look in my local tackle store at what he has in the PE range but going from what you guys have said i dont think i will use it. Will have a look at Tuffline. Cheers fellas.

I just got a 300m spool of 30lb Daiwa Samurai braid (8 strand).

It looks really like the ducks guts; ultra smooth and very thin at only 0.25mm and a nice darkish green colour.

Haven't tested it out yet but from the look & feel of it it'll be aok. Exccy though!

Otherwise if you want PE braid 'top quality & fine diameter' you can't go past the YGK Jigman x8 Ultra (or the new Ultra WX8). Yep, they're also exccy.

Check Japan Tackle for the blurbs on the YGK PE.
I've used it mostly for baitcasting in the past - never failed me once.

They also have YGK Jigman braid 35lb with 0.28mm diameter (4 strand) for US$19 per 100m spool inter-connected.

My avatar fish was caught on the x4 Jigman (casting).
"...a voice in my head keeps telling me to go fishing..."
