    What is this part on my Johnson

    Hi ALL

    What is this Red part and what is its function please
    Also where can i get a Johnson Evinrude manual

    What year & HP is your motor?
    Sometimes you can get lucky finding a genuine manual on ebay, I did. Just make sure that it's not one of the CD ROM versions. I bought an Evinrude manual for $5 plus postage.

    Thats a manual choke/enrichener. If you had to pull start (flat battery, crook starter etc) you would open the red valve to richen up the engine for startup and then close the valve.

    What is the correct direction for it to be turned left or right..

    on mine, 1985 model, it is always turned toward front of boat. I had to fix the o-ring on mine two weeks ago, which was a breeze by the way...but I had to go through the same learning process....

    EDIT: so to expand on what BM said, you would turn it anti-clockwise for a manual start, but in normal running conditions have it turned to the right (it's current position in your pic)..
