Aftermarket free wheeling hubs
Gents,
The old man has got a diesel, manual 95 Pajero GLX and has got it in his head that he'll save himself a fortune on fuel if he fits aftermarket free wheeling hubs.
He recons the difference between spinning the diff etc and wot not will be about 10% in fuel effeciency. Needless to say I've told him the marbles have fallen out and to be careful about falling off the back of the rocking chair.
On that scenario he would go from about 11.5 litres per 100km to just over 10litres. As I pointed out to him he's only be saving about $1.70 per 100km anyway but that's a different argument.
Has anyone done it, does anyone know anyone that has done it and are there any true life figures floating around out there.
Personally I think the saving will be bugger all.

Yeah the saving will be measurable by the average bloke if interested enough over enough km, will take a while to re-coupe the initial cost though.
Possibly the best part will be the decrease in overall NVH as well as improved steering and response on the tar, apples to apples.
Worthy just for this last bit IMO.

Should have added - he tells me the cost for him to purchase and fit is around $250.

I did it to the last model 'lux, but more to save wearing out c.v. boots, and uni's with the auto locker fitted more stuff spun than usual. Didn't like looking at fuel economy figures too much cause it wasn't that much fun with the v6.
If that model paj has the vac hubs I'd think he'd be barking up a very expensive tree.
