I have Mickey Thompson MTZ in the 285/75R16 and a mate has them in the 32" size 265/75R16 and they are a great all round tyre, not too noisy - and actually quite good in the sand, well i havnt had any problems yet, and im always at rainbow! Id recommend them to anyone wanting a great all round tyre!

Hey Scott those Cooper ATR's that are on my cruiser are falling apart....perishing on the side wall's.......they were put on about a month before i bought the vehicle.........the receipt is in the glove box.........they have done about 20k since i've had them and i;ve rotated them twice but they are wearing unevenly anyway. I had the BFG ATR's on my old 80 which did the best part of 70k and my old v6 4 runner got about 90k........not the best in mud but a good genuine allrounder,,,,,,never had one problem even when i was loaded up towning the boat going into the gulf etc,,,,,,,When the Coopers wear out (estimate another 20-30k) i'll go back to BFG's without hesitating,

    Hey Scott

All the cruisers going up with me have BFG all terrains. Years ago we had a few dramas with them, but on the troopy they've done 50k and still plenty to go. I personally think they are the best value for money. Don't know much else with out brands, but we are happy with them.

hi fnq, do you need an agressive pattern or wiould you get away with an AT pattern? reason i asked is that i used 3 sets of wrangler all terrains for years on my hilux (not a heavy car compared to a patrol though) and always got over 110k out of a set. they used to be quite cheap at between $170 to $190 in 10R15 size. i put a set of kumho AT's on my patrol when i had it and they were unreal, as well as being cheap at $169 a tyre fitted. i guess what i'm getting at is that there's some pretty good all terrain tyres available in 10R15, which is a very popular size, from manufacturers where you're not necessarilly paying for a name, ie. BFG and Cooper.

Thanks again for the replies, the tyre thing got a little hard so I decided this morning to just get it over and done with, for good or bad, went with 2 MTRs as an easy choice due to having a long time ago a little history with them and the 3 ply 1500 denier sidewall (I have no idea if this is true! trustworthy construction info and what it really means is very hard to come by, trade secret almost).

The car only does around 6k a year and these days when given the choice i will always take the chicken track. Replaced 2 Yokohama A/T tyre's and moved the 3/4 tread coopers from the front to the back, car feels much nicer to drive now in the front end but that's far from a fair comparison.

This tyre choice thing is pretty hard!

    cheers fnq

I am on my 3rd set of STs, cant rate them highly enough, got about 75-80 thou out of the last 2 sets, lots of heavy use towing a big boat and long distance country touring, yet to get a puncture with them. You will trash the lugs if you run high pressures on the dirt, drop the pressures and slow down a bit and you wont have too many problems. My friend has just purchased the mickey thompsons ATZs and so far they look pretty good. I have had 1 set of BFG ATs and wont be going back there again.

    yep yep two up

I have yet to have a puncture period in any tyre now I have done it haha, 25yrs and no puncture

when I did the lugs on the ST Cooper I was below 20lbs and being very nice to my tyres in a 4WD type of way

also note that the 33" ST LT only have max pressure of 35lb, that is a very low pressure for a LT tyre

I did run the mick thompsons on my patrol for a while, bloody noisy dam things on the black top. Have been running Cooper ST for a while now, 60 000 Klms and two trips to the tip and towed my 7mtr boat up from Brissy and they are still going strong. Local cooper dealer believes we should get over a 100 000 klms out of them. I am very happy with the st's, the last set of these I had on my old cruiser had 70 000ks on them when I sold it, and they still had a good 15 to 20000 klms left in them.
