No they are not obliged. Unless they actually charged your card or withdrew from your account... in which case they must provide a refund, or provide the item, or provide another item of no less value after consulting with you.
they cant supply what doesnt exist. and that scenario can change on a daily basis. what was stated as available yesterday (though more likely anytime within the last twelve months re their published catalogue) can be discontinued byt the supplier/manufacturer at any time without prior notice. I presume the scenario was : see what you want in the catalogue, place the order, provide credit details(or deposit), recieve phone call/communication from store that product no longer available from supplier, deposit refunded/no amount deducted. Hopefully store would have suggested appropriate alternative if they were good at what they do...but option is back to you.
