All the doubting thomases on this site. I've seen a 13.4 kg one that was caught at Tangalooma( biggest qld snapper i've ever seen) if there at Tangalooma they'll be at mud!

Its just out of genuine interest.

I would love to see a picture of an 11kg,12kg or 13kg snap from around here.
Its hard to crack the 8kg mark I reckon.

Yeh you dont see to many! I got one off the goldy on garry's ( Spaniardkings) boat one day that went 10.14 kg (And he's seen a few over 10kg )and one off noosa that went 9 + kg. I have seen a pic of Foxy holding a monster but i've never seen a weight attached to the pic it had to be well over 10 though, so they are around

there around ive caught 3 over ten kg the one in my DP the most recent, just knowing how to fish for the bigger fish helps, ill try get the picture i dont see my grandparents very often though

This is all getting a bit pathetic. You would think there are sheep stations at stake on the weight of a fish. All because of a mistake using dodgey scales. Move on.

I am with scott on this one. Email the pic to the Australian Museum and/or email one to mitchell zischke Mitchell.Zischke@csiro.au . He is doing his PHD in fisheries at the moment and may have some contacts that can identify it (he is a member on this site). Even some of the tropical aquarium afficienados on this site may be able to help, as it looks like a specimen that would be suited to that industry. The clear tail gives it away as being a 'small' fish' for those that are wondering about its size.

well the fish was caught in perth under a jetty, it was caught with juvi kingies, i work in the aquarium industry and have never seen this fish and i see alot of marine fish so i ashumed its a juvi of some species, its not a cardinal horse but it does resemble one, i was heading toward chinamen like you first sujested but cant find a pick of a juvi that small, its already been posted on a marine aquarium forum and no one has an idea, ill keep looking has me a little stumped

Might be pathetic to you mate, but some of us take fish sizes seriously. There is alot of prestige and bragging rights in capturing PBs, beating the metre mark, catching fish of certain weights etc. Even claiming records. I am not exagerating to say it is insulting to some people to take these things lightly.

How would it be if someone claimed to have caught a 120cm or even a 100cm barra and it was actually 80cm? As soon as they were found out they would be ridiculed and lose face.

If you are going to claim a fish is '10kg' then it bloody well should be 10kg on accurate scales. Otherwise you should say 'think it might be around 10kg but my scales are a bit dodgy, or if it is an estimate, just say so.
