Depends on size of boat and weight on the trailer I reckon.
I got Timken bearings from Supercheap to replace them on my little old dinghy trailer, and they worked fine, but probably was only 300kg or so sitting on them
Supercheap have been selling Timken bearings for a while, they are good quality,
the last time I bought bearings I bought them from SKF, they were cheaper.
Ken
probably be ford bearings with that size boat, axles are bigger to handle the load
defiantly go jap quality bearings. north side marine and the likes sell CBC bearing kits, for the price of the dodgy Chinese ones at super cheap.
funnily enough, i went to cbc at brendale to buy bearing kits, and northside was cheaper, by lots!!!!!!!!!
Timken for me ........ but I still replace mine after every long trip (2500km +) or 6 months - sure it might be overkill ....... but I'd rather spend $50 twice a year than doing a roadside repair.
Chris
Give a man a fish & he will eat for a day ! Teach him how to fish & he will sit in a boat - & drink beer all day!
TEAM MOJIKO
I went to a local bearing supplier last Friday and he confirmed that Japanese was the only way to go. He has them for $20 a wheel - Holden size. Not much more than the boat shop's Chinese equivalents.
I took my 15-month old Sealink trailer to FMS trailers at Seventeen Mile Rocks to get it sorted. The lights were failing at each launch, the brakes didn't work and the thing had never seen an ounce of grease when I bought it a couple of months ago.
I asked for bearing buddies to be fitted but it came back a negative - nothing wrong with the bearings - leave them alone for the time being and we'll check again at the next service. If bearing buddies are fitted the rear seal has to be replaced to prevent the grease just blowing out.
So I got new LED lighting and brakes that work and good advice about bearings that saved me a quid.
If you have trailer servicing hassles give Ivan at FMS trailers a call. A straight shooter!
He thinks my Sealink is a piece of rubbish - but so do I.
So it is a boat trailer and it didn't come with boat double lip seals?
Makes you wonder
I have used bearing buddies for years on seals that are single lip ones and never had one blow out.
What's everyones elses experience with bearing buddies?
Speak with the counter staff at SKF as they are contracting some stuff to be made in China etc and they aren't as good but still come in same packaging. Open them in front of staff as they have different engravings.
buy the quality grease and always replace cones and learn how to do it so you don't damage them or yourself.
The seals that come with the timken marine ones look good and have used timkin in non marine stuff for years
PS white pointer I was pissed to se your other post get deleted about FB as there is more to the story - there has to be. Best of luck and I hope people find out teh type of people they are dealing with and am surprised no one has mentioned a slander case. good luck
