    D40 Navara

Has anyone had injector problems with there Navara D40 Diesel??
I had mine shut down today after running on 3 cylinders for a min.
I had it towed to Nissan and they took a look at it and said that number 1 injector was not working and this is a common problem. The Navara is 18mths old and done 69500kms.

Has any body had these problems. The Navara is only filled up at BP with Diesel.

No not sure. But you would have to question the Nissan filtration system for the fuel system

It is a problem in the design of the injection manifold and it happened to mine also. That was 2 and a half years ago. They put a new set of injectors in it and a year later replaced them again with another set due to diesel knock.

It hasn't given me anymore trouble. If yours is a series one model, tell them to check the rear axels. I was pulling up at lights and the brakes were locking on and sending a shudder through the vehicle. The rear axels were leaking oil onto the drums and they literally polished themselves. With the abs trying to compensate it was over-applying the front brakes.

Nissan, I must say have been great with warranty work. They rang me to say we need the car an extra day. This was only last thursday. They remachined the drums and put new pads in and obviously repaired the axels. Apparently this too is a known issue with the series one.

Moral of the story? Never buy the first series of a completely new model. From any manufacturer. Having said that, despite these issues my vehicle has been a great drive for the most part.

Snatch I wished I lived close enough to you to have your dealer.

I just got my car back from the dealer, new fuel pump, fuel rail, injector tubes. The receipt says they replaced the fuel pump but I cant see it on the list of parts. This was a result of loss of power. I dont know a whole lot about common rail deisels, but i know that the fuel rail in petrol injected motor had a pressure releif valve. IT felt the same as if that valve was opening. The dealer took longer than quoted, no phone calls.

Also, front brakes stuffed after 32000kms. Nissan offered to replace rotors but not pads. Took it to the dealer said I would get my mechanic to replace the pads and they wanted to charge me labour. Told them to go get f**ked. It was cheaper for me to pay for uprated parts and the labour for my mechanic to fix it.

All in all, I think the d40 is a crap car. Soon as my lease has expired it will be replaced with something non nissan.

The odd thing is that I keep hearing nothing but bad reports about westco motors. I have been lucky I guess.

When the injectors failed I demanded a new engine. they refused but offered me an extended 12 months of warranty. Had I not had that ,I would have been paying for the work done last week. Sometimes we have a win I guess.

Despite my comment that it has largely been a good vehicle, I too will be moving to another brand when I sell. However I have heard numerous reports against all of them. Even the hilux.

Maybe I will go to a van type vehicle for my work vehicle next time and purchase a Forester ot the like for the camping etc.

It's a bit off a lucky dip these days when you buy a car and regardless off which brand you get... I have a D40 STX, and touch wood, I have only had 1 power window switch stop working, and the seat started to fray... I must say it has been the most reliable car I have owned to date...

A few off my work mates own Tritons, Hilux's and b50's... All have had some sort off a problem.. One off the tritons is getting a engie rebuild due to gudgon pin noise, The Hilux had an injector issue and it has chewed out it F/rotors in 35K, and it doesn't tow anything. The B50, has had a few electrical faults...

The's problems with all off them, thats why you alway get the extended warranty if you plan to keep you car lnger then 3 years...

I too have heard about the brake problem on the hilux Jabba.

My vehicle was actually purchased in the Whitsundays but since I have moved to Cairns the local dealer has treated me as though I bought the car there. Most dealers will not give you a courtesy car for warranty work unless you purchased the vehicle there.

My vehicle still has to go back for a fan switch resistor which they have ordered. They have offered me a courtesy vehicle for the day when it is done. Can't complain about that.

Just an update on the Triton that was getting the engine rebuild... The owner got his car back on Saturday... For a diesel motor is is extremely quiet, as quiet as a petrol.. He is very happy....

I drive a a D40 STX Turbo Diesel dual cab 4wd, 2006 model, work supplied vehicle.
A couple of times, i have lost power, to the point that the tacho doesn't go over about 1500 rpm. Can have the foot flat to the floor and it just gradually rolls along. Got to a maximum speed of 40km/h along Elizabeth Ave at Redcliffe. Luckily it didn't happen on the hornibrook bridge.
Had RACQ look at it, thinking it may have been a turbo belt or something, he found nothing physically wrong. After i turned the car off, restarted it, and went ok for about a week, before happening again. Seems the way to fix the problem is turning off, then turning the car back.
It is at nissan today having a 50,000km service, and asked to have a look at the diagnostic faults/report when its being serviced. The guy i spoke to at Nissan said he'd never heard of this problem before.
Have to wait and see what the problem was when i pick it up.

    Hi Mark,

We have 17 D40 for work and two of them have had the same problem as yours. They have had the injector pump replaced on both of them and the problem has been fixed. Ask you dealer about the injector pump Nissan know about this. Out of the 17 D40 we have only 1 has had no problems. My seems to be at nissan more than on the road.
