Definitely a contender. Along with the bigger Spheros, or the 5:1 Emblem pro if you are doing a bit of spinning as well. Have a look at the big Banax reels also if you can find them.
All very capable reels for the price.
Cheers.
how do you guys rate the pen slamer, im looking for a good value spin reel to go with my new beach rod

I have a 760 Slammer and am very happy with it. Seems tough and hasn't let me down. Had it for about a year and got it from the states much cheaper than I could find here, but a lot has changed since then.

Pretty happy with my Daiwa Emblem pro 5500a. Probably a bit higher in price than the Penn Slammer though.
Matt.
I would like to get one myself. Have the Spinnfisher and like it and the slammer is a grade above that. Tough as and great drag. Cheap enough as well that if it gets knocked you wont loose sleep. Next reel though is going to be an Emblem Pro for spinning.
Bang for buck best on the market in my opinion. Excellent drag capacity, up to 15kg for the 760 out of the box, good line retrieval ratio, tough construction. You've gotta spend a heap more to get a little improvement with Diawa and Shimano
I have a 360, 460L, 560L, 2x560's and a 760. Highly Recommend them for all tyes of fishing.
cheers
