Over night at Masthead

We fished at the 12mile and then headed for Masthead for the night. The 12mile only produced a couple of trout and a couple of Grassies. We came home with 10 lipper 7 trout a few hussar a red ,cod and a blue bone and 3 squid. The wind came in about 20kts for the trip home.

pretty decent mixed bag there A!!!...what sort of bait did you guys use???...were there many other boats around???...how were the conditions overnight???...we like Masthead...it always provides us with a decent feed...cheers for the piccie and report

hey yeh the weather wasnt to bad, we tucked in around the back of masthead and anchored up 4 the night, just used pillies but we got a few squid so we pulled the heads of them and used them 4 bait, we were the only boat out on masthead. the lipper mainly bit through the night but once some daylight started to show the trout came on the boat. they bit preety well 4 a good hour or so with lipper and trout and the one parrot but as soon as the sun was up preety well they went off the bite. by then though the wind was blowing a good 20knts so it was a slow and preety causious trip back home.

we dont really look 4 them when we start fishing normally if you pull a few fish onboard it attracts them with the smell and bits of bait that r thrown overboard, normally we have a squid jig on a handline close by if we see one, weve only just seen them coming to the boat lately so whether its the time of year that they move in i dont know, sometimes were able to get them without using a squid jig when they grab onto our baits when thrown out and sinking to the bottom if your able to bring them to the boat and bring the landing net behind them and scoop them without them letting the bait go.
We actually got one the other morning out on the 12mile during the day and it came from up from 30meters deep to get a fish frame that we threw over so they must be around.
