Incorrect GPS time for Navman tide charts

    Hi guys,

I have a small Navman GPS 5430 unit with the integrated tide screen.

When I look at the tide screen, I notice that the time is correct but is showing PM when it should be AM and AM when it is PM.

This means the vertical line showing "now" is 12 hours away from the peaks and troughs of the correct tide.

As far as I know, the GPL time is received from the satellite not stored in the unit so I'm not sure if the problem is a setting in my unit.

Has anyone else noticed this, and if so, how do you fix it.

    Thanks

    James

I have a navman 8084 and every time i look at the tide times etc. I need to set it on the date and time but once it gets turned off, you have to do it all over again. So far no permanent answer........
    Cheers Garry

Iv'e got a Northstar 5380i. It's set to auto power (turns on & off with the ignition key), never had a problem. The time and date is received from the satellite signals, however you do need to tell the unit which GMT zone (eg.+10hrs) you are in. Once set, the unit remembers this, even when powered off. The tide times/charts are derived from the nearest tide station to your position and this will be shown at the top of the screen when viewing the tide charts.

    Hi Kero,

What happens with your setup via Auto Power when you stop to fish? If you need the unit running do you need to leave the ignition key On?

My 5500 does the same thing. You need to manually set the time to read the tide chart.

    Hi Opti,

Mine is set to Auto Power, simply because of the way that I wired it. I turn it on & off via a switch (not the ignition) and have got into the habit of turning GPS on and off when I start and stop the motor. Because I've got the fuel flow sender, I only have it on when the engine is running. That way, the fuel reading stays accurate. I don't bother leaving it on when I'm fishing, I only use it to help navigate and read fuel.

    Hi again Kero,

I will rig the unit for Auto Power sometime this week and keep you all posted if this solves the issue.

As far as the tide times are concerned, I do not think that I have any issues there. The unit seems to be working fine for me, automatically switching to the closest station and displaying the correct tides for the current day. I do not quite understand what the issue is with the time. On my unit I get a 24h look at the tides for that specific day and I can shift a cursor to any part of the tide chart to read the exact tide stage and time. Your unit must work differently.

    Hey Opti,
Just make sure that, in the setup menu, you set the unit for the correct time zone that you are in!
