off noosa sat.
gday all,
weather looked great for an arvo sess so we headed up to noosa on sat morning to pick up the tinny from grandparents place. With the offshore winds predicted to die throughout the day we were amazed to see the forecast was pretty much spot on with brilliant conditions and small swell. headed out about 12.30 out the bar, which was easy, to sunshine reef to find some ground aroung the 80-90ft mark. 20 mins later first bait goes down. first drop a legal redthroat smacks the bait, then got busted in the reef by its big brother, followed by a afew undersize around 30-33. found a reef edge goin from around 85 to 95ft a did a few difts yielding a couple of nice grassies, hussar and a parrot..and the usual undersize parrot, cod, triggers, small reds. so we headed out to around 100-110ft of water. dad was fishing quite light with 10kg straight throught to hook and running sinker, and pulls up to the spot and procedes to feed his bait stright down the nice grassies gob, as he predicted. hardly any drift by now. he drops down again telling us again that hes putting the bait straight down a good fishes hidy hole. bang. bigger hit. almost bricked. get it up eventually be slightly disappointed with about a 4kg MILF or sombre sweetlip (had more colour then normal MILF, but a close relation). with dad rubbing in his sucess, and me and the bro pulling up a nice parrot and a few just undersize cod, parrot. he drops down again saying how if the law of averages is correct the next fish should be even bigger. he wasnt wrong. straight down a suspected hidy hole of a coral trout. huge hit, far esclipsing that of the 4kg Milf and the 10kg line parted after a few seconds leaving dad pissed off and us having a good laugh. that fishing tho, you have 3 rods down with a few metres, 2 have 15kg braid and 60lb leader and its the light one that gets smashed, hah o well.
Another nice parrot and a 40cm coral cod later i start throwing small placcies around. first drop a few bumps, jigging it on the way back up get a solid hit then bitten off. macky..retie...on the way down, may as wel have not even tied one on snipped off before got halfway down. whole pillie on the floaters get hit half way down by missed hookup, then saw some bust ups and left to chase them round for a while.
out goes the 5inch gulp in 3kg braid bream stick into a seething mass of tuna.bang....nice little fight up comes a mac tuna about 3lb so so. meanwhile the bro gets bitten off on plastic and couldnt convert follows to hookups on the slug (40grams, may have been to big). out goes placcie again back zzzzzzzzzzzz. long first run good 70-80 metres then slogs it deep. bit hard with the light rod lol. get up a nice mac tuna around 4kg. stoked with that fish on light gear, kept em for bait and left em biting to look for some more reefies. no keepers for the next 45mins so headed home. 20min trip back to bar. was back at peregin cleaning the gear by 6.30. Great little trip, considering the gps was left at home and managed a dozen or so good pan sized reefies and some bait for next trip.
pics later tonight.
