abalone inlays
Hi All,
Has anyone used the abolone inlay vaneers yet? I have got some for my wifes rod to be built and am wondering the best way to use it?
Anyone with personal experiance or advice? Plan on using between split grip and above front grip.
Have read that soaking in vinegar to soften to stop cracking?
Cheers

Re: abalone inlays
Get yourself onto the Mudhole website. I recall they have an excellent instructional video on how to apply the abalone veneer. Good luck with it. Maybe you can post some photos of your finished work. I would like to know how you go as I'm planning to use it on my next rod build.

Re: abalone inlays
Aaron, I would go for the vinegar method. I've seen photos of the Mudhole heat gun method where the abalone has cracked badly every few mm of so. The vinegar method seems to not crack the veneer. Check out the Rodbuilding.org site and do a search. I know they have several topics there on the Ab.
Regards
Mark
