1996 20HP Mariner died this morning? Need help

Went out fishing this morning. Motor started first go as always. Trouble free couple of k's to my fishing spot. Went to start it to move and nothing. Not even a cough? I checked all the obvious things (off switch, fuel line connected etc). Seems to be getting plenty of fuel, in fact I think I ended up flooding it. Took the plugs out when I got home and drenched in fuel so I figure it must be electrical. I cleaned the plugs and replaced, did everything I could, even used some start ya ba$tard and nothing. ANy body have any ideas? I just had the motor in to replace a broken bracket but not really anything to do with the engine and I doubt the mechanic would of even needed to take the cover off and it was going when I got it back this morning. The last thing I did was stop the motor with the kill switch (in the end of the throttle), can they get stuck or is there a fuse in the engine I should check or something? Any help appreciated

    i would check for spark...
my boat stopped allso my starter motor gave way and i had no rip cord lol so i had to use a lace out of one of the life jackets and a fishing knife as a handle

i got it home and it started when i ran + power to the starter

    Hi Fender

My Mariner 9.9 did similar things (not the same) ie ran well at idle but no good at higher revs.

Went thru plugs, tried new fuel, checked leads, drained carbie bowls for water and it ended up being the power pack on one cylinder. Maybe you have an issue in this area. I'm guessing here (I gave up and gave the motor to my marine tech to sort out) but if not the powerpacks maybe the power feed to the power packs?

    Good luck with it.

    Cheers

That motor is giving you some grief atm fender!!!! I guess you got the bracket fixed? The motor i thought was early 90's was actually mid eighty's so it probably wouldn't have helped your problem!

Like above, dont do it says, check for spark, it might be a short in your kill switch as you mentioned, trace back all your grounds and make sure they're clean and tight and look for any fuse that might have blown, good luck
