    Sunny coast tailor ?

Has anyone had any luck catching tailor on the Sunshine coast yet ?

Any suggestions for landbased fishing would be good I have not caught any here for a few years now and would like to give them another go.

    Re: Sunny coast tailor ?

hi dug there were a lot of threads last year from members over the lack of tailor on the sunshine coast and that it had been bad for a couple of years due to the mullet commercial trawlers running rampant . I was at the spit today at 6 am spinning of the rocks watching a trawler at the entrance to the seaway gathering the mullet schools up hope it doesnt kill the tailor run there.

As for spots a on sunshine coast i was up on north shore beach maroochydore right were the mouth is last winter quite a few times as it one of my favourite beach spots the locals were getting a few tailor but nothing like the GC
also bansia park moolaba breakwall gets a few lost one last year to the under water rocks there
I would be interested if any of the beach anglers up the coast have been having any luck and wether its an improvement on last couple of years or weather the tailor run on the sunshine coast is not happening .

good luck mate would like to know as im up there queens bday weekend

as for the trawler entering the seaway @#$%F^&*!!!

    Hi Sulla,
I agree wholeheartedly: #@%&ck all trawlers within 5nM from land!!!!!!

Dug: as for Tailor: The Maroochy mouth has been fairly productive late afternoon and night, especially around a tide change. Try the sandbags. Not many, but good size!

    Good luck

    Thanks for that

I am 100% in agreement a 5 nM trawler ban would improve fishing for us all.

I get really pinged off seeing un-gutted tailor for sale in fish shops at give away prices

You've got to be kidding. Does anyone still really believe that a trawler would be gathering up schools of mullet?

    Re: Sunny coast tailor ?

Trawlers dont collect mullet from the seaway. The only people that are allowed by law under permit system are the commercial beach seine netters. These people spot mullet from an advantage point then use a small vessel with a net to which to encircle the fish then come into shore. A tractor or group of people then haul the net to shore and collect the mullet, luderick, tailor, bream that may have been caught. Legally they can only keep what is endorsed on their licence.

A licence costs a lot of money. I don't know the cost these days for a mullet fishery licence but an abalone licence now cost 10 million dollars.

Years ago it was like $10.00, then it went to $100.00 then until gradually and very sharply to $10,000,000.00

Thats a shit load of money and Fisheries Inspectors do come down heavy if they screw up in their quota or catch anything that they are not entitled to. I know, I use to work for one.

    Re: Sunny coast tailor ?

i used to get tailor all the time up the sunny coast, in the bay off alex head, noosa national park, last 2 years, we havent got half as many as the years before and 3 years ago there was the start of the drop in what we used to catch, for the guys on the gold coast to be getting them and in good quality too, something has to be going on between the gold and sunny coast.
do they still get the good quality and quantity tailor at fraser as they used too...
maybe its climate change and the goldy is the new fraser, who knows
    cheers, andrew
