    Ultra cheap K-Mart combos

    Hi all,

I recently picked up a bunch of cheap SHIMANO combos from K-Mart... Now now, wait a minute and read on.

They were all either $3.50, $4, $5 or $6 for each combo down from as much as $80~. Very far from top shelf gear but exactly the right sort of gear to give to the kids or hand out as loaners to family/friends who want to give fishing a go but don't have the equipment (bugger lending good gear to newbies). Note: Some combos are marked at normal pricing, others at $20-$40. It pays to scan them all!

Seems most of the reels retail in the $40-$60 bracket with a couple being a bit less/worse and one being worth around the $80 mark at retail prices. Good enough to kick around with at any rate.

You can forget Kmart at Sunnybank. Went to have a look and all scan at full price.
In fact they rarely have any of these Kmart specials scanning lower... Me thinks the Maroochy store might be one of the few that does.

    Re: Ultra cheap K-Mart combos

Nah, the cheap cheap ones were 'matchline' rods with various low end reels on them, the $20-$30 ones were 'technium' rods with, if i recall, the same sort of reels. Oh, some others had 'hyperloop' reels, but I can't remember what model rods.

    Re: Ultra cheap K-Mart combos

Went back today and picked up 4 more combos... Maroochydore store is offically sold out of bargain basement combos heh.

    2x shimano gts 6ft 8-10kg rod + shimano hyperloop 6000 reel - $13ea
    1x shimqno gts 7'6" 6-10kg rod + shimano hyperloop 6000 reel - $14
    1x shimano technium 7' 2-4kg rod + shimano fx 2500 reel - $4

Not sure what I'm going to do with them all yet... Half tempted to sell them all on and pick myself up a nice shiny new decent rod/reel

    Re: Ultra cheap K-Mart combos

Yup, the GTS rod is one the best around in the under $50 range, Ive caught 50cm jacks on it, no probs at all.

I also like the FX reel in the under $50 catargory. Does it have the rear drag? Ive had one that lasted 10 yrs, excellent drag for a cheapy, and Ive caught good tailor on it.

nothing wrong with these combos for loaning to mates.

    cheers
    Andrew
