How to tell when a PM has been read

This may be a stupid question but when I send a PM it immediately shows as having been read in the "sent" folder.

So how do I know if the PM has been read?

When you compose a message look down the bottom under options and you will see

Request a read receipt for this message

. Check the box and you will get an acknowledgement when it is read.

Does it work only on compose and not reply? here is a cut and paste of the only options I can see below.

Save a copy of this message in your sent items folder.
Show your signature
Automatically parse links in text
&nbspisable smilies in text

Edit: Just had a look and the option for an acknowledgement of the PM being read is not there!!! I can only see the options FNQCairns has listed in his post.

Due to the extra load on the server, PM tracking is only available to Platinum, Premium and Addict member levels.

Just added it to Addict level today.
