Gday scott,probably a bit out of your area but I buy my squid/calamari direct from the trawlers at cabbage tree creek at shorncliffe.Since the co-op shut down there they sell direct to the public from the boats.

High all...what is the best place (most likely a fishmonger) to buy really good human consumption squid, mullet etc for bait fishing in or around Brisbane/Redlands....

I virtually always buy fresh bait ( mullet, squid ) from a retail outlet, either Seafood House above, or the Fish Factory at Comslie.
You can see what you are getting and pick and choose.

not in your area but there is a new bait and tackle shop right at the boat ramp at mooloolaba and they had some nice fresh stuff on the weekend!open from 3am sat and sun too!
Check up on pattons big guns in vicy point...
they had fresh local mullet 2.99per kg and looked great..
On the weeknd i went there and got 500grms of fresh whole squid for $1.86
mind you they were only small for bait.... so give them a go not promising anything but worth a try
