New boat.
I have finally taken the plunge on my third power boat and after many months I can show off my new boat. Here it is after launching last weekend. .
After deliberating between the local plate boats (fisher, bc and all the others) I have finally decided on a 530 bar crusher. It was a huge leap forward on my previous pressed tinnie and although I was reassured that at the time of purchaing it (the pressed metal tinnie) at the time that it would handle it (offshore); it certainly did not. Continual pounding, harsh ride, banging, hard to set up canopy, so called comfortable carpet in the deck (they omitted to mention stinky carpet after a few days in the garage) etc. So became my interest in a plate boat range with a sealed deck and with the cabin and canopy the bc range
Although the smallet in the BC range it was the biggest I could comfortably go with- given the width of my custom garage, height limitation, and the length (so I could also fit my snooker table in) in years to come. And over the last year a high percentage of launches have been single handeed. Never-the- less and after my first venture offshore it handled beautifully in the less than forgiving conditions off tweed last sunday. Yes it was a wet boat by previous posts in this forum (but I am sure that most other boats would have been too given the conditions- only 3 boats where I was but the handling was excellent, far superior than many.
My wife is happy ( the easy to hose out floor does not stink of fish and rotting bait after sitting a few days in the garage) I am happy; a solid performer offshore despite even getting airborne over the crest of a wave over tweed bar (yes I did test it not so perfect conditions) and my nearly 4 year old even managed to handle his first fish (in the river not offshore). Needless to say even after the first weekend I am happy with my purchase and the many years of fishing of it to come. There are many features of the boat that I cant mention to even the simple things like (even though it is a drive on trailer) if you choose to winch it up there are 3 winch speed settings on a fully rollered trailer far beyond the hard haul of my single speed skid trailer of the last boat.
The BC comes standard with so many features I had to spend hours on my new boat modifying that this year I will have more time on my hands to go fishing.
One question. They have sealed the bearings off with submersible bearings (the oil filled variety ones) but have left the grease in the (wheel bearings of the) previous ones (without adding the oil). I know from my last boat I did remove the grease prior to adding the bearing oil resevior. I have without giving it a second thought added the oil to the hub without removing the grease from the bearings. It is now a gloggy mess in the bearing window. I am sure it will be well lubricated though with a oil/grease mix Will it be a detriment if I mix both the oil to the hub with the grease that is in the bearings? or what should I do to remove the grease prior to the oil?
Signed
Happy BC owner
