    Brissy River Jew

Shot down to the port of brissy last night, arrived at around 8:30pm, went and gathered some livies, some good prawns, gar and mullet.Went over to the wall down the mouth of the river and found a deep hole anchored up dropped some nice prawns down and sat there for an hour for zip. except for on shovelnose for stewie(tracing'em).
The call was made to find some good structure further up the river as the tide was slowing, we were thinking Jew.pulled up to a nice piece of wood sticking out in the river with no security around, and anchored up at the legal distance of course. first bait nice big prawn, as we set our rods an settled into our seats a little tap tap tap, feed a bit of line out and tap tap tap, more line, zzzzzzzzz and strike, im on.could it be, could it be, yes the silver sheen next to the boat, is the arrival of my first ever Jew.about time, thanx stewie for finally putting me on to one, after watching you catch plenty of them over the last 12months. as we measure (57cm)and take photos of my first jew stews rod doubles over picks it up but misses the strike.he leaves his bait out as we get mine back in the water. as i rebait stewie gets slammed again, must have been some bait left on his hook, gets taked into the pylons not even a chance.
So we start thinking we should go up in leader 20lbs might be a little on the light side, so we re rig 50lbs this will surley stop them. back in again, and we both get smashed again, every prawn we were putting out was getting smashed by these monsters, i pull in another 52cm model, with a massive smile on my face.ended up being busted up 7 times, have to take some heavier tackle next time, after about an hour the bites slow down as the current picks up, decide to throw out good size mullet as we start to tidy the boat to head home. as we are about to pull in our lines i get a tap on the mullet, let it go a bit andzzzzzz im on again good size fish, starts heading up in the shallows and then drops the hooks. pull the mullet in and inspect it compeletly scaled, so we were thinking thready, oh well will have to wait til next time, head home about 2:30am happy as.

Benny just east of the boat passage, directly off where they are doing wharf extensions you run accross some very interesting bottom, ive always thought it would hold jew at night and its not near any line breaking pilons, have a look next time.

sorry mate, i read your article and looked at the pictures....must have had a "bloke look"....
i think 75cms is a bit steep....caught one recently that was a tad over 3kg's at a length of 72cms, and was gut hooked....
time i got it in and realised that the hook was to far down his stomach, i cut the line and let him go....seemed pretty weak..hope he survived....

yeah thats ok i often find myself doing that, yes we had the same discussion about 75cm being pretty steep for them, considering that they were my first i would have like to take one home for a feed, but alas we have to follow the law or theres not going to be any around when my children are older, bla bla bla

I agree that sounds like a jew. Sometimes they take a while to swallow the bait.
