Which size soft plastic to use?

HI, pretty new to soft plastics. I've been told the nuclear chicken gulp ones are the best for around Moreton Bay. I saw some I liked the look of today, the 3" minnow. I fish mainly the shallower reefs off Wellington point (5-7m depth) and was wondering if these are big enough to attract decent size Snapper, Sweetlip etc. Many thanks

Depends what you are chasing
Bream - up to 3 inch shads or wiggle tails
Squire/Sweeties/Parrot - Usually prefer the 5 inch plastics, in some of the deeper water in the bay even give the 7 inch a go.

Just personal preference in the shallower water, find gulps especially the in the shad style are not as effective as other brands such as bass assasin, zooms or squidies, I think this is because they don't have as much action and with a smaller strike zone this is very important. On the days that it is very quiet gulps can always give that advantage with the strong sent that they have.

Also might help you out, on overcast days or murky water try to stick to really dark colours or really bright colours and on the sunny days or clear water try more realistic colours.

This is all personal preference, also try and go as light a leader as you can

We use 7"shads in nuc chicken for snapper but for inshore reefs maybe the 5" would do. 3"would attract the smaller squire.

The 5" sound good. What size head would you use? I've been using the size 1 hook (hard) 1/16

My favs in the Bay are 5" jerk shads or 4" minnows

hey, i use a range, some days i get bites every cast on one colour and then the next day i dont get anything on the same colour, so i have about 10 different colours i use,

for moreton bay i like the nuclear chicken, pumpkin seed, watermelon, black shad, either in 5" jerkshad or i use 4" minnows,

caught a cod on the weekend with a pumpkin seed 5" jerkshad 1/4th 3/0 hook, and then the squires were going crazy on the 4" minnows in black shad colour on the 1/6th 2/0 jigheads,

If you are just starting off on the shallow reefs I don't think you can beat the 3" Minnows or Swimming Mullet grubs (pumpkin seed is my standby). They will give plenty of action and work on fish to 60cm or so. In deeper water move up to your 5"-7" in a jerkshad style
