After the random draws at the MBTBC Comp last night a mate & myself took off for Mud Island.
Once we found our spot, the night started off slowly.
First catch was a snake, and the next catch was an eel. Both fell off as they were getting lifted from the water, and that was a relief.
Then the sharks came on the bite, with both of us getting an equal share.
My mate caught a just undersize Snapper, that was released to chew on more bait another day.
Then the excitement began.
I had a big weight that was taking off heaps of line slowly.
As it came to the surface, we found it to be a big Estuary Cod.
With my mate on the net, we landed it just, as it just fitted in the net.
It was a whopper and came in at a weight of 13kg.
It was caught on a whole pilchard.
I am glad that I was using one of my so called "broomstick" rods as I think anything less would have snapped.
It is a shame as it is not on the list to weigh in at the comp.
It is the biggest fish that I have ever caught.
The rest of the morning was uneventful and as the weather was chopping up and with the worsening weather predictions, we pulled up anchor and came in around 8 am.
Graham.
