frosty, if you feel that strongly on the current bag limits, maybe you could release your own catch.

    Re: Bag Limit debate

Im certainly not in favour of a total mixed bag. I'm also not sure how I feel about the Jack size of 50cm. I mean I understand the need to be able to let each specieas breed at least once but if your only allowed to take 50cm jack that would leave inshore fisho's with a very limmited opportunity to actually eat one. I mean they aren't exactly the easiest fish to catch and I dont hear of many people that can even bag out on Jack in a session. I would however support a Jack stocking program in SEQ.

Any thoughts for or against a 50cm Jack limmit.

    Cheers

fishersurfer more often then not i do. I like to get a feed but if i think i have enough i either release them or go home. but more often or not i never reach the bag limits 10 years ago was a different story though. Was quite often bag limits were met. This isn't scientific research as one might say but i bet everyone here is noticing this trend

Therefore as you could imagine - I'm all for mixed bag limits in some form - But not sure if it would work as just an low arbitrary number (ie 20). ..... unless you also lower the legal limit for individual species ........ otherwise fishoes will take 20 winter Whiting & toss them out once they start adding snapper , jew- whatever is better to their bag ......... In most cases the fish will be thrown out dead. So that's where I see the problem with mixed bag limits.

Sorry Nagg, but I would have to disagree. As far as I am aware, there would be very few members of this forum who would, in their wildest dreams, consider throwing back dead fish to better their bag limit. We just don't do that!!

I would agree the memeber of this forum seem to be pretty ecologically aware which is awesome. It just the other people out there that aren't because there is a few and it is a shame some people would do it

    Re: Bag Limit debate

I was talking to Bill Sawynock the other night about catch rates and he showed me the latest data and the surprising thing was that only .02 percent of fishers x trips ever gets their bag limit his reseach and Captag info has been collected over 15+ years
    so are bag limits realistic?
    probably not

Do we all think that bag limits are too big i personally believe that there should be a mix bag for example 20 fish per person per day so you can catch 10 snapper 5 whiting and 5 flathead. So other bag limits should apply but also have a 20 fish in total catch limit. What does everyone think of this idea?
Stupid idea mate sorry. Letting clowns slay 20 cobes,or 20 spanish or 20 good snaps in a session is insane. The same clowns would do it day after day till whole schools were wiped out.
Bag limits IMO ATM are pretty reasonable. Be versatile, experiment.

    Cheers Scott
