Thread: SOMERSET SESSION Midyear Muster 25th July

  1. #736

Re: SOMERSET SESSION Midyear Muster 25th July

Ok, got just about all the camp gear together...

What lures / tackle should I bring so that I have a hope of catching at least 1 bass over 4 days ( unlike my fly fishing days at Glenbawn... 3 trips for nil fish... )

Any advice apart from explosives will be welcome :-)

Maybe the more experienced guys could do a list so that us bass virgins might break the hoodoo we have ..

Man though they are great fish these bass they hit awful hard so I am guessing a somerset 2 kg jobby will be a real handfull
Well there was bugger all caught this weekend . the only good thing was there were bugger all SKI Idiots on the Dam. Off Course the one crew that were there camped next to me. Doof Doof Doof!!

There is still claw / bait to be caught but they are on the decline apparently

not that I give a shirt. A lot of those imbeciles come from the same school as SKI Idiots; They go flying past flogging shirt out of their tiny BANG BANG F'BANG and give you a wave as they pass. You should be able to shoot those Idiots.

Oh and on the way home some old fart rolled his new Torago in front of me on the road works in a 40k zone, straight road? The thing came to rest on its side. It looked liked the inside was full of smoke, I thought it was on fire (bloody air bags).

Those bloody laminated windscreens are a bastard to break! Surprising how high a Torago is on it's side. Any way eventually got Mum and Dad out through the top door and after 2 or three fire units and three ambulances turned up we got the old girl off my camp bunk into the meat wagon and I have not long got home.

Did I mention there was no fish caught. I might post a report in the report section, but bed time now.

    GOOD NIGHT

So no fish hey ? - This is sounding rather ominous , as there has been SFA caught since the water influx
Any chance of re routing to Boondooma ...... bassin has been good there

& it has the best stack of firewood

    Chris

PS ...... I'm with you Darren - A little breeze is good but a F'n hurricane sux
Give a man a fish & he will eat for a day !

Daryl, looks like it's tough fishin at Somerset at the mo, personally I don't mind where we go if a location change is in order.

Well done for helping out with the accident.

Trev, read your report on BP, sounds like once u found em they were there for the taking, wonder why that's not the case at Somerset??

    Pete.

Pete I have fished Somerset for many many years BUT not of recent times..(since the big influx of water)....the trick is to find the Schools mark with a marker and drift over them jigging...it's another thing to get them to bite...Somerset can be a bit Iffy at times.......The last time Somerset had a very large influx of water it took alot of time for it to start producing.
    Good Mates....Good Food.....Good Fishing....Priceless

Thanks Whitto, is it fair to say that all the dams in the area got a fair bit of inflow? If so why has Somerset shut down.
Also, the emphasis seems to be on jigging, are winter Bass and Barra the same? the fish holding deep are not in feed mode, should we be looking for them up in the shallows, (walmer water)we all see Barra on the sounder holding deep and more often than not these fish are not looking for tucker.

Not professing to know here, just asking the question.

    Pete.
