    Caboolture river

Got a spot in this river where I get jacks and cod, but every now and again there seems to be a school of mystery fish that come though and pick up my livies and run with it without taking the hook, they run different to a jack or a cod, dont think there Jew either, they will pick the bait up and run away from the bank and towards the surface ,they seem to have a bit of size about them as well, just havnt been able to catch one.
    driving me nuts
    any opinions???????????
ps when I say school I can get 5 or 6 runs in as many minutes then all quiet, live prawn or poddys, no teeth marks on the bait.......If it was further north I would pick it for barra but obviously it isnt them.

Hey mate we had the same thing happen in this area they are probably triple tails as they seem to really be hard to set the hooks.. We finally caught a couple few months back and thats wat they were.

I wouldn't be surprised if they were jew. Jew often pick up a bait and run with it for a while just holding it in their mouth. If you strike at them during this first run you miss them most times. Then they stop and swallow the bait before moving off. When you strike on the second run you usually hook up most times. When fishing the rocks or beach for big jew you always have to wait for the second run. Once or twice when fishing the Caboolture river I've had schools of small jew (now undersize) come through and give a couple of minutes of frantic action before everything went quiet again. I know they were jew because I caught a couple of them each time
