Thread: prop pitch and motor depth

Re: prop pitch and motor depth

well i think it because another person has come in . he has the old formula hull rebuilt to 26 feet and wants to fit two 300s on it. the hull has been done by a very experienced person but i would think you would need a pilots license to drive that one . he wants to see how mine goes first . so i say sit back and watch. because its fly by wire they can bolt it on and go though whether its long or short you will still need the same controls fitted sooner or later.

Ozbee, without comparing the dimensional drawings of the two motors it is a bit hard to state correctly, but this is what I would assume...
A 30” motor is obviously going to have its pivot point higher, relative to the cav plate, than a 25” motor. A higher pivot means that, with the motor in the neutral trim position, the leg/cav plate/prop is going to be further out from the transom, and the further away from the transom the higher the cav plate needs to be for it to be at the right height.

If the 25” E-TEC was at the top hole (lowest position), then you have what ~80mm (??) to move up but you are adding ~5” (~125mm) of leg length, and, the leg/cav plate/prop is further away from the transom...

Unless the 300 zukes have a sh!tload more lower holes on the transom mounting plate you will definitely be drilling more holes higher on your transom – my bet!

no you have about 4 inches and with the extra hole down i don't think it will be far out as the cav plate on the etec was about 2 and a half inches above level. we shall see next week any how the bloke from haines is giving advice which im am greatfull for.

go fish you are very much right i need a jack plate for for approx 50 mm of course it will be more so it should sit mid hole. by countersinking the plate bolt holes to the back it will finish up about 25 mm further out and yes they can swing a prop better closer to the surface than the etec. they do have a 25 inch in stock but is 4 grand dearer brought after the ozzy dollar crumble so for a couple of hundred dollars for the plate i would defineately go for this motor . anyhow further up less spray near cowling and height is not a issue on the haines when tilt.

can the df 300 have duel charging like the etecs have so none of this battery switching also where do i get the cable to go from the motor to the lowerance sounder / chart plotter/ radar unit / engine management data . i know it is a plug in t affair but do different engines have different harness from the motor to the t section plug . i suspect the etec or lowerance cable would not connect directly to the new engine. i just wish i took more notice when it was installed. fuel calibration and consumption would that have to be recalibrated or not . thanks to all the people that have been helpful.
