Hey guys, not sure if this has been posted about before but it looks like Cafnec are at it again trying this time to close the entire east coast of Queensland to fishing from the tip of Cape York to just below the 24th meridian just above Bundaberg.
This is serious shit and they have already started getting their cronies to send pre-formatted letters seeking support for their campaign to the PM; you can read this gut wrenching stuff here. They have already handed in their final submission to the Government, so presumably it is with Peter Garrett or the PM already, essentially 39 pages in total why fishing should be banned on the Great Barrier Reef (download the final submission here)
There's a reasonably in depth article in this month's NQ Fish and Boat at the bottom of Page 37 for those interested.
This has the potential to put extremely unsustainable pressure on the rivers and creeks in FNQ as the reef will be off limits to fishing. I believe that this could well be the end for a lot of the tourism and charter boat industries here in FNQ if this gets through.
Bearing in mind what is at stake for FNQ, it is time to send letters to your local MP expressing your displeasure and reasons why they should not accept this. I'm nearly finished mine to my local federal pollie (Jim Turnour).
Mods, if this is already known about please kill the post off.
