    1998 Quintrex Escape Blistering everywhere?

    Hey guys

Recently purchased second hand quintrex 1998 escape 4.55 i know the corossion issue has been answered alot on this forum. But i have white flakey corossion and blistering paint all over the gunnells. NO blistering around any screws or bolts or connections it is all random blistering and corrosion. Quintrex paint problem?

Would i be better just sanding it back and leaving bare aluminium in patches or just leave it, i just wanna fish but don't want my boat falling apart.

    Thanks

Gees I hope it was pretty cheap.
If it were mine I'd be getting it bead blasted and repainted if the corrosion was all over the gunnel area like shown in the pictures.

It would appear and may assist that you put a couple of sacricial anodes on the boat and ensuring in the process that they meet bare metal. In fairness I don't believe you can blame Quintrex. It can happen.

I would start by checking every electical item on the boat is not earthing thorugh the hull . Then I would remove as many stainless fasteners and replace them with ally blind rivets (especially the transducer and anything else that is in the water) There are ways to fasten things to an ally boat rather than just screw them on

Looks like any other painted tinnie to me. The only tinnie I have ever seen that didn't have blistering paint was a 40 yr old Dehavilland 14 footer.

    cheers

Looks like she’s been bubbling away for a while.
If it has an isolator switch I would turn it off. If not disconnect the battery until you find where the current is leaking to the hull.
And get rid of the stainless or isolate it with plastic washers and Duralac.
I would have a look under the floor as salt water may have been left under there and with current could have created some corrosion.

Do the above, then start sanding to remove the flaking paint...
A small power sander will take it all back fairly easily... Get a random orbit sander (the disc shaped ones) to make it quicker.

    Thanks guys

I am thinking i might just sell it and get a new boat and look after it myself. I am scared to look under the false floor now lol.
