    Lowrance 5200c turning off

Just enquiring if anybody has had this problem or has a fix for it i have lowrance globalmap 5200c that starts up fine and works well for about 10-20 minutes and then turns itself off i can turn it back on and same thing happens again , i run a lowrance colour sounder beside it no problems so i don't believe voltage problems are a issue any ideas would be great thanks.

Are the voltages on both units similar when the gps turns off?

Does it freeze, or simply appear to lose power - If so, could be your wiring/connections(Check your power connecter is seated correctly, Check for oxidation on power connecter pins/fuse holder(Give them a good clean), and make sure all wiring for power is not loose/making poor contact) - If you have multimeter, check voltage to unit.

Does not sound like it is your problem, but read recently of a problem with a GPS turning off. Seems the installer hooked it up to the ignition. Everytime they turned the motor off the GPS stopped working! Duh!

    Perhaps try a software update, I have heard of it fixing power off problems before;

Mick it had been running for about 4 hours before this started ,what voltage would it read if it was dropping when i test it with the volt meter, and it just turns off no freezing turn it back on and away it goes again for a period of time, this will happen when just sitting there no bouncing or banging around in waves.

    Hi Greg,

My 525cdf was doing the same thing, Mine also froze up but quite often it would get lines acroos the screen just before it would shut down. Try doing a soft or a hard reset. Don't know what buttons you will need to press just go to lowrance.com.au and put it into the search section

    Hi Greg,

You can display voltage on both units (Overlay data) - Simple way to check that both units are receiving "similar" voltages....both units should be getting ~12V

Do you have latest software on the 5200?(If not, you will need a spare sdcard(1Gb Max from memory), go to lowrance site and follow the instructions...make sure you backup all your Marks+Settings!

Soft and hard reset info (FYR):

Soft- (You will NOT lose saved marks...but the unit will go back to factory defaults)

    1. Turn unit OFF
    2. Press and hold the PAGES key
    3. Press and hold the PWR key
    4. Release both buttons when the USA map appears

Hard- (Deletes all saved data(GPS marks etc) - Ensure you backup!

    1. Turn unit OFF
    2. Press and hold the ZIN&ZOUT Keys at the same time
    3. Press and hold the PWR key
    4. Release both buttons when the USA map appears

I've had to do soft reset a couple of times when my 5300 refuses to get any sats.

    HTH,
    Mick

    Re: Lowrance 5200c turning off

I had this problem with my 5300 and it turned out to be a faulty battery and the lead to the isolator had somehow gotten VERY hot & had fried the Isolator too.
