opinion on rod not being given

I went to a -cart store at morayfield tonight they had an ian miller barra 6-10kg rod with no reel on it and no price on the butt of the rod, however halfway up the rod there was a big red sticker saying cruxix 200 $150 advertised like a combo when i asked the sales guy he said thats a good price for that rod i said the cruxix is a reel not the rod that must be the combo price but the rod had no reel asked about the reel he said none left but i had spotted one in the cabinet so told him there was 1 there he said he would check with his manager, and the manager told me no that was the rod price as the reel had been stolen , and i pointed out that the name on the sticker was the reel name and it was attached like a combo sticker he said must be a store mistake so i told him there were another 4 rods the same so not a mistake and i would like the combo for the price shown but he would not do it even after i pointed out that it was false advertising mistake or no mistake that was the advertised price, under the sticker they had a rod price of $125, should i have been given the rod what do you guys think

Its irrelevent if I agree with you.

I had exactly the same situation in another store and had a huge stand up blue with the salesperson, the dept manager then the store manager but got nowhere. Later wrote to head office but never got a reply.

Hi Wilcara i still think if its priced at that then it should be given then the rest of the stock removed and retagged so much for customer service i should of just slipped the reel onto it and gone to the checkout

The reel was not on the rod, regardless of the name, or whether it once was a combo, they are entitled to sell the rod only for whatever price they feel like. If you don't like the price then don't buy it.

On a similar note, the false advertising claim doesn't hold water. A stickered price - in the eyes of the law - is nothing more than an invitation to negotiate, by law they do not have to sell it for that price. The sticker is indicating where they would like to start negotiating. If it is a mistake most shops do sell it at that price for customer relations, but by law they do not have to.

If there was an advertisement (eg print or tv) for a different price that is a whole other kettle of fish.

For me, and as you've asked for opinion Shane, its a case of ya win some, you lose some.

Yep, would have been a bargain if you could have gotten away with it - and you know so, but if the store doesn't make its margin, its not there tomorrow - simple rule of business.

I reckon too much is made of "but it says its cheaper". Sure we all want a bargain, none of us, me included, wants to pay a premium for anything these days. But I wouldn't want to profiteer at the expense of someone elses misfortune either. It wasn't their fault the reel off the combo was flogged, and you want them to cop another loss? Sorry mate I don't reckon you've been hard done by.

    Cheers

Yep, it's only offered for sale for that price.
You have the option of negotiating a lower price and the shop can negotiate a higher price.
The agreed upon price is what is put into the cash register to ring up the sale.

I don't get it, from an honesty point of view or even the wrong end of the stick? a combo sell price of $150, combo missing reel sell price of $150 rod only. Rod only has a price tag of $125 yet they still want the combo price?? + all of the combos are missing reels???????????? where the reels in the cabinet?? MMmmm if the above is true, sounds dodgy to me, best to leave that store alone and forever without your personal profit margin, they do not deserve it.

    cheers fnq

That mart store in morayfeild is crap, they had a 55lb bow mount watersnake on show with a price tag of $369 so I told they guy I'll take it at that price. He looked in to it and said no they are $599. The price tag on it clearly said 55lb bowmount watersnake $369 so I insisted on that price. They finally said yes you can have that price but you get the floor stock which is broken and has no foot control ...What bullsh#t
That store is crap and I'll never go back

I have never heard the price put on a price tag refered to as a start point for negoation anywhere. If they have a tag that promotes a price than that is it and no way would I ever accept a store trying to raise the price. If the cheaper price tag has been covered than that is a different story. You have to accept the new dearer price however in that instance I would not buy the products on principle alone.
I have noticed that the price of fishing gear in all *mart stores has had a marked increase recently.

Shane - should have gone to another big store and asked them for the combo there and to match the *mart store combo? Might have been a way around things? I hear ya Grant on the Watersnake, poor form hey! Cheers, Darren

Re: opinion on rod not being given

While shopping up in Darwin in a major department store a few years ago, I came across packets of squidgies advertised at $1.95 each. Well, hell, I didn't even use plastics on barra at the time but at $1.95 a pack I was soon gonna give em a go! I ended up grabbing 10 or so different packets to try out!

Anyway at the checkout they came up at $7.95 a packet (I think from memory). After they physically checked the price and discussing the matter with the checkout operator and their supervisor, we agreed that I would get half of what I had at $1.95 a packet and the rest at 1/2 price.

Saved a few dollars that day...

    Cheers,
    Roo.

One thing I have come to understand.......staff in retail stores stuff up... often big time.

If you know what you are buying and have your wits about you, you can come away ahead of the game.

I have looked at stuff in these big don't care stores and said to my self... that is not a good deal..........of course the items don't sell..........then they end up discounted........ and often discounted again..............those rods just arent ripe yet.......keep an eye on them... they'll be ready for picking some time.

Thanks guys i know the price was to cheap and was worth double was trying my luck to be honest about it , but as tailor taker pointed out and this is not the first time it has happened there and the sticker on the rod was for the reel not the rod anyway but was attached like the do all there runout sale stuff as a combo halfway up the rod if it was just the rod for sale why put the reel sticker on the rods.
we also went to a supermarket chain the other day to get groceries noticed in the drinks aisle that they had different kirks drinks at 2 different prices 10 cans of kirks ginger ale $3.99 and also $7.99 took it to the register scanned at $7.99 told them of the different prices manager went and checked came back and were given free

Re: opinion on rod not being given

Here is a bit of insight and a possible reason for what you think is the wrong tag.

Most of the chain stores have very rigid stock control systems..... these systems probaly will not allow an item to be renamed or rediscribed once in the system.

So a combo comes into the store described and labled as what it is.... the reel gets stolen or written off.....leaving the rod on its own.

The rod isn't then in fact a rod, but is in fact a combo that is missing a reel as far as the stock controll system is concerned and there is probaly nothing that the staff can do about it except discount it justifying it as damaged stock.

Re: opinion on rod not being given

A couple of years ago i was having a look online prices of a tyrnos 20 and found on marts mainpage and advert saying they were $220 i rang the local one up at browns plains and asked if they had any floor stock as the advert said only while floor stock,, they said yes i then said about the advert on the website and they assured me it was wrong and the price is $380 or something around there, i spoke to the manager and asked him to go online right now while on the phone and look at there main website page and sure enough he said ok come down you can grab one and ill be ringing head office now to get that removed.

As allready stated ya win some ya lose some.
