    Fish ID request

    Hey All,

Fishing over easter in all the rain resulted in a few strange catches, like catching half a dozen Cat Fish whilst tailor fishing off south wall ballina, but this one i cant work out.

I caught this fish in about 5 meters of water in the pumicestone passage. It was caught on a pilchard, and kinda just sucked up the bait, no bite, no run, no fight.

anyway, i have no idea what this thing is. Can anyone name it??

    thanks.

    A grinner eh?

Are these things common in Moreton Bay?

and Benno1, lots of tailor, catfish and one missed Jewie run down in ballina, and plenty of small snapper out in the passage.

Yep. Lots of them in the bay. Vermin, every single one of them. Bait snatchers and they would eat their own kind.

Try them as bait for others if you dare

    Cheers

    ubdkdd,
Yes very common around the bay islands, if you are fishing over sand close to reef edges.

All those little sharp teeth can make a mess of you line too.

No body has been game to report back on the eating qualities yet either

    cheers
Its the details, those little details, that make the difference.

pop a 4/0 - 6/0 in his back and send him back down..... Spottys around the back of mud love them..... I have even taken a fillet of the sides, popped it on a hook and caught squire, and a lovely baby snowflake eel - $200+ in a marine aquarium shop :-)

    They have wonderful eating qualities.

    Recipe as follows:

Bring to the boil a large pot of water.
When at boiling point throw in two larges rocks and the grinner.
When the water has boiled away to nothing, throw out the grinner and eat the rocks.
