Yammie HPDI 175 and Marlin Trailers

Anyone know of any known issues i should look at for a Yammie 175 HPDI? pushing a fairly heavy 6m fibreglass job for those who ask? ( rated to 225hp)

Also how are these on fuel? more interested in reliability.

my biggest concern is lack of hours, 34hrs since 2007 when sold new but actually built 2005.

Also the trailer is a Marlin trailer rated to 2500kgs, with breakaways etc? havent heard too much about them but looked at it today and was in excellent condition, apparently they are a custom builder but anyone know much about them?

boat has passed mike test but not the wife yet re cabin? could be a short conversation but maybe not?

Mike, there were issues with earlier bigger HPDI's (going bang) but I believe the 175's have been pretty good all along. A mate had two 250's go on him, first at ~15 & the replacement at ~7 hrs!

Sorry, can't help with the trailer.
    Cheers

those Motors have a pretty good reputation, but like all things, you can get a dud! do the usual checks, a decent test run and take the chance, anything second hand is a lottery, they are indeed very low hours for a Motor that is in fact 4 years old! trailer should be fine too, I have only seen a couple, but they looked OK, assuming that it is the same "marlin" as the ones I have seen.

Marlin trailers are built down near Newcastle and have a reasonably good reputation down there. One very large boat yard down that way uses them exclusively. What sort of boat is it mate?

They where yet another fict and opti some sizes where good some not, 6cyl right? be VERY sure you have done all your homework to gain a solid footing, OZ is probably not the place to ask, try the US they seem less cowered culture than here and speak their mind online instead of never ending moderation.

Find out every update and service advice applicable, then you can go from there, considering they are 2005 models, that's still in or close to the HPDI trouble years.

At least that's what I would do first.

Ultra complicated orbital technology is the last design a person would let sit for a long period IMO.

if you want some specific info about that Motor, post in the Yamaha section on iboats.com and see if a guy called rodbolt responds, he knows more about big Yamahas than anyone else on the planet, he will need to know model and serial numbers, but I still think you should be OK.

I have a 175 HPDI on my boat. Had it 8 months and 210hrs, it has not missed a beat, very good economical motor thus far. Hoping it stays that way.

There were some duds in the past when they were refining the technology I believe, but from all accounts they have sorted them out.

Apparently all updates done on the motor.. but the deal isnt quite stacking up and a few things will need to done like position of the oil reservoir and batteries etc and yes fnq, its seems pretty close to the troubled years.

lack of use of motor bugs me, dont know but would prefer a motor with regular use, Im in no rush,,
