Thread: Over the Rainbow

    Over the Rainbow

I spent a few days over around Myora etc. It was not hard core fishing and more of a relaxing time on the boat. I did get out for a fish on a few occassions and got a good feed as well as dicovering a bit of new ground to replace my spots taken in by the new Green zones
Sat morning saw a late start and a foray up towards the Welsby in search of pelagics. There were a few schools of large Longtails teasing us but we could not get close as they were very flighty. A school of fish began smashing bait in the middle of the channel and I moved us in close for a cast. My brother Glenn (Cervelo) threw metal a couple of times with no result so I chucked out a 4" Fins placcy and it got smashed. After a hard fight on 6kg I finally landed a very reasonable 80cm+ GT. He certainly fought harder than any LT I have come across at this sort of size. We did not have a camera onboard and I did not want him for the table so he was released without a memento pic
A few Whiting and about a dozen Squid finished the day off nicely

Sunday saw us back up the Rainbow this time in search of Snapper and Cod on some of the deeper structure. We worked a bit of isolated ground and came up with a few nice Cod around 50-55cm. These were caught on plastics

On Monday afternoon I was running solo with heavy rain threatening and gusty conditions . I went out to a bit of ground I had found earlier in the day and started fishing Squid strips in search of a Grassy or two. Lots of undersize Grassys and Squire and a few unstoppables had me pulling out the big stick and chucking on a live Whiting. In less than a minute the rod folded over and after a short tussle a 60cm+ Cod hits the deck . Another Whiting and in a minute or two later the rod folds over and a heavy fish fights hard. This Cod was over85cm and my best Bay Cod to date . The weather picked up so I headed back to the mother ship
In the morning I picked up two pots baited with Cod frames and pulled 8 nice Sandies.
The Rainbow is a top place to explore and with a little thought produces plenty of action

    Re: Over the Rainbow

Dont tell them too much mate.
Just tell them the current roars through there.
Fish are hard to come by.
    Bottom structure is all sand.
And most of it is green zones now.
Now what else is wrong with the place ??????

Well done horse yah found some new spots after our good spots had been taken and found a few holding fish. I spent the weekend hitting harry's and had fun bar the dolphins pulling on my snapps. Good cod there and its good to still get the old unstoppables. Geez those crabs look good. Some bugger stole my pot at well towards raby. Good times hey. Cheers

    Nice feed there Horse!

I spent a few hours in the Rainbow on Monday and pulled a few cod too.

Had a crack for some squid without any luck.

Webby there's always heaps of boat traffic down that way!
