Thread: 3 year delay

    Wink 3 year delay

Seeing that the new runway has been put back three years does this mean they will not need the sand from the bay for another three years? Therefore the deals done by certain parties wont be needed for that time. So, can i have my fishing and crabbing spots back for three more years? I dont think so! Just a thought.

Heard that this morning Raffles, i totally agree with you but know hope in getting any of them back, will be interesting to see what happens in the next 3 years if further changes are to occur and the area they exstract from is green bet you they get permission to suck it out anyway!!!

    Raffels,
I think you will find that the area marked for the airport extension is outside the marine park boundary.
Therefore would not be either green, yellow or any other colour, it is adjacent to a habitat protection zone, in which you can fish and crab.

That maybe true John, but up to 15% of the sand area designated for landfill for the new airport runway is covered in Seagrass.

Does the BAC plan on regeneration of this area as is done on the mainland when land areas are cleared of natural , virgin growth ?

What this in effect has done, is give us ( SOBA and recreational anglers ) time to gather forces and expose the problems with dredging Moreton Bay sands. Time to alert the public of the slight-of-hand in which this process has been run and also to pressure the local State members to join us in the fight to save Moreton Bay.

The audacity of the BAC and State Government to attempt to pull 50 milliion tons of sand from the Moreton Bay Marine Park is astounding !

The State Gov and EPA say " we need to protect the Bay for everyone " and then close the boardroom door, take the manilla envelope, shake hands with the devil and simply......smile. NGE.

Apart from my rant, it is another project being put on hold, about 3 years ? To my way of thinking.... build it now, because in 3 years time it will be 10.... 15.....20 % more expensive to do and we need to keep the construcion industry bouyant now under current conditions.

Phill, Yes mate i agree with you 110%, i just stated the fact that it was out side the Marine Park area (the actual airport extension area) This is a topic i had a huge disagreement on one night at one the the pre Green meetings, the EPA person would not listen/did not want to know about it, she just kept saying that it was out of their control and outside the marine park boundary.

In fact before the State Elections recently i sent a huge letter to my local state member (V. Darling), one of the points i raised was that of the airport extension and the sea grass there along a good population of dugongs, i doubt that the EPA even knows that they are there.

Plenty of time to photograph them, I.D. them on a website and give them cute cuddly humanoid names.
Easy enough to beat them at their own game.

While you're looking at BAC, I know they took way more than their quota on the last dredging run, and I'm sure that the weight of the stockpile has buggered the water table in the immediate vicinity. I drive past it every day.

Anyone know how to test acid sulphates etc?

    Re: 3 year delay

That's OK John. I actually showed our EPA mate... Peter.S. a copy of an email from the consultancy folks to the BAC that indicated the seagrass situation. He had no idea and took a copy of said email. What he does with this ????

Yes GBC, pics etc etc, that's in our plans.....

as for testing.....we'll be looking into that shortly.

    Phill,
I can't write here what i think of that EPA guy Peter S,
He was the spokesman at the last meeting i went to, actually i believe i was sitting beside one of our members, Thereal Andy.
I had a number of questions to ask but after some one asked him what methods or models were used to come up with the proposed areas that they had, he just replied, "Oh we had a look at a lot of different things until we found one that gave us the answers we wanted" (or words to that effect).
That just blew me away and i knew then and there that the deal had already been finalised. I ended up not asking any questions as i realsed i would not get straight answers.
I also have an issue with pollution in the Pine River, i have had letters from my local member, plus letters from two Minsters (Gov. ministers that is) many emails to and fro with the EPA, photo's emailed to the EPA, still no answers, they got quite upset when i said i was going to have some testing done, go figure that one.
The big thing is i don't have the money that the big Corporations have and i don't donate hundreds of thousands of dollars to polictal parties.

    Cheers,
    John.
