Ok this may be old hat or well known but I had an idea to secure those clamp on tinnie seat swivels... you know the ones that never clamp on terribly well!
On my old boat (fibreglass thwarts) I added little wooden blocks which the "legs" of the clamps sit over, and when secured they couldn't be pulled upward or move sideways. I don't want to do this on my new boat as I want the seats to be movable... So what about this...
Buy some 50mm wide webbing (like seat belt stuff) from the boat shop, and a 50mm stainless buckle thingy to suit... Wrap the webbing around the bottom of one of the clamp legs, run the webbing under the thwart seat, and back around the other clamp leg then through the buck... Pull and tighten in the buckle... That should hold the seat down and prevent it from lifting and should also stop most of the sideways slipping... It would also allow easily movement of the seat across the thwart as needed for boat balance or for better fishing position etc.
So, has anyone done this, and if so, does it work well? or have I pioneered an ingenious idea?
Just want to have the seats secured down a little better. I like using the clamp on swivels as they add a little extra height off the boat floor (more comfortable for my long legs). Also, this method would cost less than $20 to secure two seat swivels so pretty cheap as well!
I initially thought of it while looking at some ratchet tie down straps, but with those the hooks would get in the way and a buckle is flatter than a ratchet mechanism thingy and wouldn't get in the way as much...
