As an avid prawner in the southern bay i have been getting a few prawns of late. Mostly around the powerlines/russell area. but having to contend with 40 or 50 other boats gets frustrating. i know Dave Downies weekly report in the bayside bulletin mentioned the possibility of the prawns being around the 'moored boats off victoria point' which boats are these? the ones south east of the ferry terminal or the boats in the bay between victoria point and point o'halloran? i just love finding a new place to prawn and get away from the crowds a bit. i guess this area would probably be best on the first of the run out?
We know they were spraying at The Redland bay boat ramp on Sunday and were thick from all the way to Vic Pt Sunday. The question is how has this wind and rain affected them? Have they buried? or moved out?
a crew that i know got 3 buckets out from redland bay ramp last sat, went back sunday and caught 10 prawns and less on Monday!!
the water around the powerlines/mouth of logan is to dirty after that rain and also has a smell to it..
you may find if we get some cooler weather, that might be the end of the season?
still..won't stop 200 boats tomorrow from going out and chasing some!..good luck to them.
i will be one of those boats however i am determined to find some prawns by myself so if all go's well... andrew please dont say that just the very thought of it makes me upset, any i was still getting them in the fist week of june last year so i think we have a while yet.
