    Pursuit boats

I came across a review for the pursuit challenger 600 today

    http://boatpoint.com.au/reviews/2009...nger-600-14563

I was just wondering if someone has been in one, or the smaller 550F. I'm mainly interested in hearing what the general build quality is like and of course handling/stability. Things I like is the all-glass built (stringers), foam fill, walk-trough transom and the prices are not too bad either - very similar to the Yalta.

I am not sure you read that correctly..it says "foam filled stringers" and floation: "basic"..bit aure what they mean by basic

Nice looking craft for sure. Sounds good if the price is right.

    From the website:

    600 FEATURES

    ▪ Fully Moulded Fibreglass Bunk Liner
    ▪ Fibreglass Stringer System
    ▪ Under Floor Floatation Foam
    ▪ Transom Walk Thru
    ▪ Large Plumbed and Lit Bait Tank (75L)
    ▪ Fold Down/Removable Back Seats

Not sure where you got the "basic" floatation from?

    Re: Pursuit boats

    Ah, OK. Butterfingers I'd guess

Well I suppose foam is a fairly basic form of floatation?

    Re: Pursuit boats

Might be wrong but I was under the impression that 'basic' flotation means she won't sink but will float and some angle, as opposed to 'level' flotation where she will float level (although a bit lower in the water than normal!!)

    Re: Pursuit boats

You could be right there - makes sense. I'm still learning about boats

    ** Shameless bump **

Anyone had anything to do with these boats??

    Re: Pursuit boats

I gave up on reading reviews a while ago because I never read a bad one...all boats seem to be bloody great according to these reviews...perhaps with a few minor or inconsequential "Don't likes" thrown in for authenticity.....so hopefully someone on AF can give you some first hand experience! ...my 2 cents...

basic / level floatation has been well covered in other posts...

Basic...should float if swamped but could be upside down....
Level..should float right way up if swamped...but it has been suggested elsewhere that this assumes swimming pool conditions, not roough as guts seas...

    Re: Pursuit boats

Agreed, I which someone could do boat tests based on a set of measurable criteria and stop using the same old touchy-feely phrases that seem to be in every test. Surely there are some "bad" boats out there, or at least some not-so-good ones?

Long term tests will also be a good idea. A short spin around the bay is not really good enough to properly test a boat IMO.
