Yeah Chief I find myself using circles exclusively in the bay with any rod in the holder. Might as well let the technology do the work for you.

    Dave,
This might sound silly but as I've not used circle hooks before do you still set the hook, or let the fish do it themselves?

Gday Shane you don't strike as you normally would, all it takes is to have a little drag pressure on and as the hook rolls out the mouth the barb is designed to hook in the corner or the mouth. As I said before my rod sits in the holder and let the fish hook itself. They're great if you chase Noahs as well.

I like the Gamakatsu hooks, nice and sharp.

Blacksheep... Hi mate , the theory on this style of hook is to let the fish run and when the line comes tight and the rod loads the hook rolls and pins the fish in the corner of the mouth. It sets in solid as well. the hooks I think were originally designed for snapper.

Dave & Chief thanks for the advice, I'll give em a go the next time I'm out. It'll probably take a while to get used to as I'm so use to ripping my arms off when chasing Jacks and Reds.

    Cheers

actualy andrew, these fish are all born male and after maturing they turn female. Not saying to much but next month's BnB should answer a few questions and we should all end up with a bit of threadie awareness. Cheers

im pretty sure circle hooks were originally invented for use with longlines when chasing tuna.
